The Charger has potential, the Challenger doesn't. Ran the Challenger on Sport tyres to get the weight down with tree trunk width. I ran the CLK55 with 984HP @ 3909lbs faster than the grippy Challenger.

Charger - 113.140
Challenger - 114.833
CLK55 - 114.767

I think it is a showdown between the Charger and the c32 for me

Thursday morning. It early and the track is not silent

Drift: (Not fully awake yet) What is that noise? Who is out on the track at the buttcrack of dawn?

Herb: There's a shiny and swoopy two door racing around out there. Got some skinny kid named Phil driving. Philapino Messa I think. From the radio chatter, he's not happy. Or it doesn't sound like it. I can't speak the language.

Krista: Look's like we got another horse in this race. It seems that Ferrari isn't happy that two outsiders are having it out on their track. So they have sent the little sister out here to deal with us.

Drift: (walking towards the swoopy coupe) I've never seen one of these before. It a new Maserati GranTurismo. I don't know anyone who would pay that much money for a heavy luxocoupe with such a high strung engine. It seems to defeat the purpose. Either one or the other.

Mas tech: Can I help you?

Drift: No, not really. Just checking out the competetion. Nice little car here. How much weight did you get out of it?

Mas Tech: Almost a thousand. But it still heavy compared to the Crossfire and the C32. But it lines up well with the Big cars out here.

Drift: Well good luck to ya. (Under his breath) Your going to need it.

Krista: (answering cell) Hello? Yeah it seems that the hometown team has muscled in on us..... The new car is quite heavy but the old one may just give us a problem. Plus they know the track inside and out ...... OK .... Really .... Alright, will tell him.

Well, it looks like we got another bullet in the chamber now. It seems that the Viper ACR has just been let go for competetion in LMMS trim. The good thing is its built for this. Bad thing is all its got is platform and the required slicks. But the stats don't lie.

Drift: Well that Switch kid has pretty much locked up the win for us. Unless the Merc guys pay him to drive their cars.

Krista: Yeah, but your still getting your butt kicked by the CLK. It's time to man up Nancy.

Drift: Well that's our single goal for the rest of the track time. Get into the 112's, and beat that CLK.

New cars, it keeps it fresh. But its hard on the crew. Can they get it done? Stay tuned.

Can't match Switch's time, so no pure gold Merc for me, but I'll be offline for a couple of days so not much from me on this. I would definitely second Hop's advice, weight is your enemy, grip is your friend and power is meh.

As for tuning, it's a stock tune apart from my usual adjustments and softer front springs to counteract the fatter rear tyres:

Thanks for all the good advice, gang.  I gave the xfire another shot last night.  I went for full weight reduction, full width upgrade, rear aero and then took what I had left for power (race exhaust and sport engine, IIRC).  I then applied a Tonka tune with a 54.5% bias and 71.65% SWR.  I played around with differential and gearing, but I'm still not satisfied with them.

As for tightening the nut behind the wheel before tuning -- boy, that hits close to home.   ;D  I was so wildly inconsistent that I wound up just giving up.  My overall lap times were coming out pretty close to one another (slow, but close), but the times within each lap were all over the place.  :-[

I'm thinking I may need to take the approach that Blooze suggested a while back.  Just start off slow on the track and concentrate on getting around without making the tires squeal, and gradually work my way up to speed.

I'm not a good driver, but I'm not this bad either.

LOL, Blimey Drift, you couldn't hold on to that one for very long?  I'm guessing you don't work with any National Secrets or anything like that!

Day 2

“bang, bang”, (Waking up in the truck cab.)

Kev : “Oh my god what is that, if they have come to moan to me again about yesterday or get me to pay the bill, they can stuff it.  How was I supposed to know that Helga booming down the straight at a 180mph would shatter the windows of the track office?  The car passed scrutinering didn’t it and I promised no tto run it again?  Blimey, these Italians don’t have get uptight.  Although looking at the Benz boys they seemed to be secretly enjoying it”

“bang, bang”

Kev : “Alright, Coming”

(opens cab door)

Marco : Ciao Kev.

Kev : “Morning Marco, still not sure if I’m talking to you yet?”

Marco : “Sorry about your XFire, we shouldn’t fall out about it!”

Kev : “Does that mean I can have it back, the one I am currently running is more like pissonfire?”

Marco : “No, but I do have a surprise for you.  Come with me.”

Kev : (Climbs out the cab conveniently already dressed) “What is it?”
(Walks over to Marco’s transporter at the other side of the pits)

Marco : Fancy trying out these, I have them on loan so that we can show the invaders what a real car is.

Kev : (Takes one look) “You got some FIATs!! What are we supposed to do with those, start a breakdown company?” (Throws arms in the air) “Couldn't you have got some Ferraris or Lambos?”

Marco : “ I did try, but they don’t want anything to do with the squabble between Daimler and Chrysler.  Take them out for a spin they might surprise you!”

Kev : “Okay Marco, I’ll give them a try after a wash and coffee.  If this is another one of your pranks I wont be pleased.”

Maserati GT – 112.447
Maserati GS – 112.429

Kev : (Rolls the GS back on the transporter). “Marco my man, that was a blast!  The engine on those Mazzas really want to pull and grip well too.  If Heidi is going to keep up, it will take something special.”

I've got a Grandsport Sitting in the garage somewhere from another old Series... I didn't like it then as I found it very understeery... Maybe this time things will be different?

Probably give the GranTurismo a go too, its just too damn good looking not too...

Im suprised BMW or Audi haven't shown up though... I didn't think they'd let Mercedes take all the glory..   ;)

Viper Shakedown Run
Car version:  460hp / 500 lb-ft / 3403 lbs
Notes:
-> Avon Race Tires
-> Full Aero Upgrades
-> HEAVY! -But doesn't dance like a big girl! ;)

I LOVE THIS CAR, and, rest assured, I'll have another go with developed settings and more laps, but for a 5 lap shakedown, I'm happy with a 113.307 in the Viper. I've been chasing my A Class Miura ghost, which is at a 112.0xx, and the viper is killing it through the first 4 turns, WOW! The miura is another build and tune from my buddy ACCPorsche, and was another strange parallel build. My own similar and pre-existing build has just a little more power on tap and runs similar times. I can get it into the 111's, I just don't get a chance to race mugello in A Class much. I'm excited that the Viper is already threatening, and wouldn't be surprised to see a 3400 lb car with the fastest time soon. ;D

The very first lap, from the free-run style rolling start, was a 115.5xx... ;D

Crossfire 113.197

Not bad for a first effort with this car.  It was one of the rejects from my A-class project, so I guess it's not a "real" reject,. but not one I was happy with originally.  We'll see what a little more DF does for it.

OK, I had enough green to hit the 112's one time....it ended poorly.  Oh, and that WAS my high-DF tune.  hehe.

Add another one to the Viper camp.

I tried the Crossfire first and didn't get on with it. I'd gone with a light weight grip build using the second widest Avons and was happy with the handling but didn't like how gutless the engine felt. I just about to go for the rebuild when I spotted that the ACR had been approved so decided to jump ship. Like Hop, I've gone for full aero and Avons and have been pleased by the results.
