NAT??
« on: October 25, 2008, 12:56:02 PM »
My skills with vista are, um, craptacular.  That's a technical term, btw.  Anyone know how to set the NAT to open on the router in vista?  I followed the directions in the help file, and didn't have any luck.  Basically, it tells me to change the setting in a menu that isn't a drop down, but rather a list of settings.  Either I'm doing it wrong or MS is (or possibly both).  Anyone have experience with this?

What type of router is it fndr ?  The fact that it's Vista shouldn't make a difference, as this should all be done within your web browser.

It's a netlogic with a firewall.  Thing is, when I set up my home network, I was able to join that week's hotlap challenge, so I know it's something that can be changed, just don't know how.

I also looked up the codes the 360 gave me when I tried to join the HLC.  They weren't really any help.

When I tested my connection to XBL, it showed the NAT set to strict.  I tried adding the XB360's applications to the exceptions list, but can't get them to show up.  For that fact, I can't even get the 360 to show up on the network.  My laptop shows up just fine.

Fndr, when I did my network test my NAT came back as strict as well.  Through a lot of pain and time, I finally got it set to open.

Try this.

Start>Run, in the field type in 'cmd' minus the apostraphes.  This should bring a dos command box up, in it type 'ipconfig /all' again minus apostraphes.

This should list a series of ip adresses, and gateways.  Take the net gateway, iirc, and type it into your internet browser.  It should open router settings.  You'll probably also need to find out your 360s ip address somehow.  I found mine through the router settings.  Actually, it was through my modem settings.  The number I used looked something like this 198.162.1.xxx and then I chose my firewall/protection tab and selected the NAT/Gaming section and chose Xbox Live from a drop tab list.  I then chose my 360s ip addy and saved settings.  Went back to the 360 and ran the test again and got NAT open results.

Also, it should be noted that this was on AT&T dsl with a Belkin Wireless G Router, so it may be totally different for another type of connection..

If the above doesn't work it could be your ISP.  If you are on a low cost package then they may throttle you bandwidth.

So far so good.  I'm number 140 in the HLC with a car that I'm not very happy with.  Off to the upgrade shop.

Have you run the network test yet?  Is it set to Open now?

I've had little trouble joining any room since I set mine, whereas before I was struggling to join a room at all.  It got to the point that I would stay in a terrible room for fear of not being able to race elsewhere.

Well, it was fine. Then my wife came home and it immediately wasn't again.  She swears she didn't change anything.  Suffice to say I doubt she knows whether she changed anything or not.

OK, so I got disconnected at a random point during a GTA session today....but I can't tell whether I fixed the problem because of the ******* new XBL experience.  The "test connection" feature now just tells you you're connected-no details. lol

Honestly, I think it was the guy coming in as you left - I don't think it was your fault.

It is highly likely that the above post was produced with a drippy jowl.

Hey guys, Im having the same problem with my Xbox. I can't connect to any games at all. My friend said that it is my NAT but I don't know how to change it on my Router. I have a Belkin Wireless N router. If anyone could help me that'd be awesome!

My router is a bit different than his. Under firewall there is no tab. I saw the NAT setting. When I clicked on it, it just gave me options to change the administrative password, and remote management and stuff.

I'm not sure I'd recommend this, but I ended up just taking down the router's firewall.  My wife and I both have good security software on our computers, so there wasn't really any reason not to.  Your situation may vary.
