A Class All Around Mustang Roundup - Closed
« on: September 02, 2008, 11:35:53 AM »
There are already a number of threads out there for this or similar projects.  So lets start with finding one of them "officially".

The restrictions are that it must be of the Mustang (Ford, Shelby, Saleen) family and PI of 850 or less.  The measuring stick is the Quick Rank.  We are looking for the best all 'round build/toon so each entry should be the same build/toon for all three tracks.

There are a number of Career Races for these cars so folks should be able to defray expenses some what and maybe improve their Career ranking as well.

Hm... a good chance to see how my Boss o' Grip will handle.  I'll take out the new 'Stang, too, maybe the Cobra R to round it off.  ;D

These are correct.

For a bit more elaborate discussion of the QR business see this post....

Sorry to say I can't make this one unless it runs on for a while. I'm headed to Road America this weekend for a two day driving event, and have two weeks of work to get done this (short) week before heading out. Plus I need to get my car cleaned up and ready (so I can get it real dirty with bugs and brake dust). I'm afraid that won't leave any time for Forzacating. But if you're still running next Thursday or so maybe I can pull a Mustang or two out and see how it/they will do.

Cheers,

Mustang GT

SebringS: 73.397
TsukubaL: 57.110
RAtlS: 56.320

(I have no clue if these are good times :D)

Now in Grabber Blue  ;D

I'm liking the looks, I'm unsure about the color now though, Grabber Orange, Grabber Green, and Grabber Blue all look equally retro-awesome  8)

On cold tires on Tsukuba, there's only one way to describe driving this thing: Cobra.  ;D

It is highly likely that the above post was produced with a drippy jowl.

I obviously didn't spend any time on my A class hot lap times, lol.  A few quick laps in my chosen car here, a Mustang Cobra R, with the stock toon and I set new bests on the two tracks I tried.  I don't know if this car is going to be fast but it looks pretty cool.  I don't have full times to post yet but I'm slightly faster than your Tsukuba time, slightly slower than your RAS, time Bimmer.  I forgot what the third track was  :-[  so I didn't give that one a go.  Oh and not that it matters but due to our lack of a board here for bit I went over to the dark side... um I mean the Exodus board and started running sans assists (I was only using ABS anyway) so I'll see how it goes.  Other than one panic breaking move on Tsukuba (oops) it wasn't too bad on these initial laps.  Oh and the stock tune on this thing seems pretty solid.

Are you running aero?

While Cobra-ing out of turns is great fun, I'm pretty sure there are faster lines on Tsukuba.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure I've ever really gotten the line around Tsukuba tbh

Somebody say "Cobra"?

I've been playing around with variations on the Mustang Cobra R, and noticed something Drift said about a lot of downforce. It just so happens that I checked, and the max available DF setting for the front is pretty normal, but the REAR MAX IS 397 LBS!!! :o

There's gotta be a way to abuse that... ;)

Mustang GT

Tsukuba 56.52
Sebring 73.536
RA2 56.372
QR 186.428

This was one of the first cars in my search for an A-classer.  It's a full grip build, based loosely on the mustang challenge car.  There are probably better times in it, as the wheel nut has tightened during this project (doesn't it always?).  It's a blast to drive, though.  This is with a 54.5% WB and a 78% SWR IIRC.  If not, the WB is right and the SWR is pretty close.

Edited for boldness.  No, really, I forgot to bold my times.

Yep full aero, max tires, one less than full weight reduction.

Looks like I may be propping up the board on this one. :-[ I've only done a few tuning laps so far, but I was in the 57's on tsukuba and Road Atlanta, while Sebring turned into a photo shoot (gotta love destroying those cones :D). While I should drop that a bit when i run it seriously in Free Run without a load of telemetry blocking my run, I think running a car with 550bhp stock isn't helping matters. That and it tyres and weight reduction being an either/or scenario is I want to keep the car (S281E) in A Class.

Personally, I would side with Hop on this one and say that I'm expecting the Mustang Cobra (with all that grip not to mention the downforce) to take this one.

The issue with the Cobra 'stang is that it can't fit full WR and full-width slicks.  I think you can just keep your regular width (still pretty wide) or maybe even use a lower-level slick (I almost always use goodyear) and still fit WR, so maybe I should give that a shot.
