Best so far is a 119.083.  It has more in it.

Must... beat... Hop...

Must... beat... understeer... first...

EDIT: Do yourselves a favor.  Don't try 35% front bias on your brakes

I hear a lot of people complain about the 911 exhibiting under-steer, and I hear a lot of people complain that it over-steers, and sometimes it's the same person having it both ways!

I think we can explain what's happening if everyone tells the crew here when the car is under-steering and when it's over-steering, because it'll do both, even when properly tuned.

I'd hate to jump in with assumptions because I can talk about this car for hours, and I want this project to be about everyone finding their own 'Eureka!' moment with one of the prettiest ladies at the dance. She's got a temper, and she's been showing it, but you're going to look good with her out there on the track.

(how's that for mixing metaphors? ;))

Has anyone got really detailed reference material on 911 handling dynamics?

I can sum up what I know after the Peanut Gallery gets a head start! :D

My horrible understeer was apex-to-exit, under power.

Was.  I [totally] overhauled the setup, and now it works.

It felt like something in the front suspension was binding  ???

My tune is reliant on weight shifts. If I catch it wrong on entry, or turn in too early. I'm visiting the gravel traps, both under and oversteer induced. I've gotten to know them real well BTW.

I really don't have an understeer post-apex problem. A couple of times I hit the gas harder than I should and started the nose to slide by moving the weight back.

Its almost like driving a drift car by the way I have to wrangle this car. If I'm off the ryhthm of the weight shift in 2-3 or 4-5 .... or 6-7 or ......  It goes sliding off, usually by a push.

I am getting a bit brave with trailbraking and have gotten through turn 1 at no less than 70 MPH, with a nice tight line for 2, a couple of times. You can trailbrake this car. Its just going to take no assists and a really good feel for it. No turn in taps to set the nose. Smooth and easy is the only way.
You can tell I'm getting comfortable with a 48% brake bias. (Or stupid)

I have taken turn 9 with just a half lift with the right line. But wrong line sends you to the kitty liter again. Real close to nailing that one down.

And I absolutely do not use the curbs (as a rule). On exit it will cost you speed. It just doen't accel back up as fast as not on them. And mid-turn with the 911 is a questionable propostion at best. Don't know where it will come out, if at all.

My problems were mainly with the weight transfers, like Bimmer i'd sometimes get understeer coming out of a corner as the weight shifted back and so lost grip on the front, other times it would just be coming into a corner (mainly turn 7) I needed to lift slightly which took the weight off the back and so tried to send me off into the gravel trap with the back end coming round...

I've been trying to avoid the kerbs, but it easier said than done... I found the cars sharp turn in can mean im taking too much kerb and losing lots of time as most of the kerbs are quite high and it throws the car way off line..

I've had a quick retune which added more rebound, softened the bump, added a touch of negatve rear toe and lowered the caster angle... I also took a bit of air out of the tires.. The car felt much more stable and consistant for me and I was able to run mid to high 118's consistanly, although I didnt' beat my fastest lap, to see if it was the re-tune or just wheel nut tightening I put H6's tune back on and went out again.. and I was almost back where I started, best lap was a low 119 so now im going back to my baseline and working from there...
Extra smokey.... now with no assists!

Am I reading this the right way if I conclude that - for a wheel user like myself - Yokohamas might be better for high-grip, tight cars but Bridgestones should perform better in looser cars? Sounds like Bridgestones would need a bit more aggressive cornering to get the most out of them while Yokohamas would be the better option for tip-toeing around corners.

Let's assume Ske has it right, what tires would be theoretically ideal for our 911?

I feel like I'm aggressively tip-toeing!
