Rallycross Challenge A Class *CLOSED*
« on: May 11, 2008, 02:33:25 PM »
Things have slowed down at the shop lately. But its about to pick up

Krista: You know Drift, we have to stop doing this work for trade thing. Its getting harder to meet payroll since everyone is out blowing each other up with rocket lauchers in Liberty City instead of racing. We have too many cars sitting around.

Drift: I know. But I have a nice collection of hard to find toys out in the back.

Herb: Too many if you ask me. But I'm bored. All the Muscle Inc. cars are built to each spec and the LMMS cars are all built and tested. What are we going to do now?

Drift: Well, we don't really have the funds to go globetrotting right now. And I would really like to stay close to home. Memorial Day is coming up and I want to spending it tending a grill.

Krista: There is the test track not too far from here. But what cars do you want to use? We really have a huge stockpile of slicks sitting around, but not much in the way of power parts.

Drift: I have been watching TV way too late recently. And I have seen some wild rally action. You know there is a pretty decent selection of the street versions out there. We could use the unloved ones and see what they got on some of the variations.

Krista: That sounds like a good idea. But which ones?

Drift: Lets try some more of the off the beaten path Snakes. How about Black Mamba, Mayalan Krait, and Diamondback reverse. Black mamba is a little more high speed than the rest. D-Back has some good sweepers. And the Krait is just a twisty mess. A Class would be good for these cars. Slicks are a definite for the Test Track and most of the PI would be taken up there and with weight reduction. It would be easy on the engine parts.

Krista: Sounds like a plan. I'll let the rest of the gang know..... Hey, what cars do you want to pull out for this challenge?

Drift: Let's keep it to the homologation specials. How about the Lancia Delta, the Lancer Evo 6, the Subaru 22B STi, and the Pugeot Super 2000. I did just get one of those lately. We can se if the new car can keep up with the old standards.

Herb: Now all we have to do is pack up the battle box and drive them over there.

Here we go again. This time on the Snake tracks, kicking up a few dust bunnies. Adding up the best lap times to see which is the King of the Rally Champs.

The specs are A Class 850

The cars are the
Lancia Delta
Mistubishi Lancer Evo 6
Subaru 22B STi
Pugeot Super 2000

On the test track variations of
Diamondback Reverse
Malayan Krait
Black Mamba

A few of us have been toying with the AWD's as of lately. Now to find out how they are coming along.

Ah, this looks like a fun one... :D

I needs to send the kid out back to see if we still got that Lancia that I won ages ago.  I never did nothin' with it.  Looks like a good place to bring it out...

Spanky: Rallycross huh, the poor kids been rackin his brain with that Evo 8.  We've got enough cars sittin in the storage lot, 129 at last count, and less than 10 AWD's.  Looks like we have a void to fill.

Ms. Lynette: Would ya quit talkin to yourself in here, yer makin Johnny look sane.  I have an email here you might like to see.  Its the only reply to yer ad 'n the paper.  Kinda suprising, but we do need the help.

Spanky: (looking at the printed resume) Well would you look at that.  Bet its a joke, call 'im back anyway and set up an interview, not here, maybe down at the diner.  Keep Fit out of the loop for now.  I'll try and keep him distracted down at the Test Track for a few days.

Spanky walks out in the shop and picks up the inventory booklet.

Spanky: Hmm, nope......., nope........, nope......., nope......., damn, we don't have anything on this list.  Johnny, who do you know local that's still importing, anything on this list.

Hands the list to Johnny as he pulls himself from under a Tuscan S.

Johnny: Aint noone got any 'a dem European cars 'round here.  I ain't even seen a Peugeot on the streets before.  We been goin round and round with the local Matsu-hoshi dealer for Fits project, I bet I could ask him.  Just seems like those boys aren't all there sometimes.

Spanky: No, no, no, no, no...no need to bother him right now.  He's got enough on his plate at the moment.  I'll figure somethin out.

Spanky heads into his office and grabs the keys to a Lamborghini Gallardo.

Spanky: Guess its a good thing we entered that Hotlap Challenge, but too bad we have to give it back when we're done.

Spanky's Speedshop will definately be taking part in this challenge.  That is if Spanky can locate a decent 22b anywhere.  Havin a Scooby around would take more than one thing off of my round tuit list.
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

This does look like a fun one. Last night I threw a build and a v511 tune on an old Delta I've had lying around since my early days in Forza 2. It was a handful but it seemed to have some potential if tweaked with a bit.

So, if this stays open through next weekend I'm in. Unfortunately I don't get a chance for much but working and recovering from same during the Mon-Fri period.

Cheers.  ;D

I plan to enter this one...

I'm thinking I will be pulling out the Purgeot, as the Brits would say  ;) (don't hurt me Spiny!)

Maybe pull out one of the others, too.

This is gonna be fun - and could make for some good online racing!  ;D

PS: Am I the only one here who thinks this game needs a Ford Escort or Ford Sierra (either one in full blown Cossie form  ;D)

Ah, the glory of being number one...  It comes hand in hand with being the first one on the leaderboard.  I'm quite sure any one of you will rectify the situation in the very near future.  :-\

I jumped into my 22B after an extended period toodling around in a bunch of R2 cars.  Needless to say, I spent a good deal of time in the super dirt (good one, Spiny), or sliding into walls with the brakes locked.

The DBack time is a fairly good one - the two longer tracks need some woik...

:D $

Made a slight alteration to the weight distibution on that puppy (now its 50/76 with 76% DF) and it seemed to allow me back on the throttle a bit sooner.  I updated my times - now they are all top 500 at least...

I'd like to get in on this, too. my Forza time is somewhat limited, as it's my girlfriend's XBox, but I'll try to find some time this week.

I'm thinking I will be pulling out the Purgeot, as the Brits would say  ;) (don't hurt me Spiny!)

And as the French would say as well - how do you say it over the pond?

PS: Am I the only one here who thinks this game needs a Ford Escort or Ford Sierra (either one in full blown Cossie form  ;D)

The first Sierra Cosworth would be pretty cool, though there might be a bit of turbo lag. I'm not too fussed about the Escort Cosworth, but i really would like to see the original Mk1 in there. Or the RS2000 Mexico would be pretty good. ;)

And Blooze - I think we need to thank Hoplee for the "superdirt" phrase - or at least that's where I heard that from. But, it does seem very apt.

As for me, expect to see some Lancer times later in the week - I have all the others currently built up to B or C and don't want to break them down when there is an alternative out there begging to be driven...

Wikipedia says it better that me:

Quote from: Wikipedia
The common French pronunciation of "Peugeot" is IPA: [pøːˈʒo]. In England it is usually pronounced /ˈpɜːʒoʊ/ "PERzho", while Americans pronounce it /puːˈʒoʊ/ "pooZHO" or /ˈpjuːʒoʊ/ "PYOOzho". Peugeot cars have been given the nicknames: 'pug' and 'pugs' in the UK. In Malta some people pronounce "Peugeot" as PUGU. In those parts of North Africa that were colonised by the French—Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco—"Peugeot" is often pronounced in the same way as the word "bijou" ("jewel"), both because of the sometimes indistinguishable quality of vowels in Arabic when translated into French, and through affection.

When I've been to France the pronunciation has never seemed much different to how we say it, but that could just be because I'm too busy trying to understand the French language  :P (it's very definitely my 3rd language, and my skills in the 2nd aren't great either).

Back to the challenge. I've only run Diamondback, and I'm very surprised at how competitive this Lancer is. I expected it to be quick, what with being a 4WD with room for upgrades, but not this quick. The only fly in the ointment is that I tuned it Diamondback - will it do as well on the other two. I think it might struggle a bit on Krait - I've done some work to reduce the understeer, but i have a feeling all those twists and turns might induce a reappearance :-\

What was even more amusing though was the ghost I was chasing/beating. It was a certain orange Anglo-American collaboration from the 1960's which many of you have probably seen me running online :D

I managed to squeeze some time in tonight to try a radical (for me) tune (10/40 or so courtesy of the FM2 site) on this AWD Lancia. I guess I'm sold on it at this point since I managed to beat several of my best times on these tracks. I think there is a lot more there if I can keep my head together long enough:

Subaru 22B
Malaysian Krait: 98.411

I have time left in this car, especially on Mamba and Diamondback- I just ran out of time to get it.  Expect more tomorrow.
