Serial has mentioned it a couple times.  He operates with stock settings much of the time.  And only changes things after he has run it for a while.

Tuning isn't really as important as driver skill.

I affectionately refer to tuning as Tuning for Tenths because that's what you're doing.  I can drive (most, not all) cars in stock (upgraded, not tuned) form within a few tenths of what I can with the same car fully tuned.  When Turn10 said the cars will 90/95% tuned from the start, they weren't lying.

I use tuning as a means to try and correct any faults I find in a car once I've driven it stock (understeer, oversteer, bad gearing).  Some cars never get tuned !

I rebuilt my GT-500, concentrating on loosing weight and gaining grip.

Heavens!!

I managed to knock 19 seconds off its total race time and move it up into the Stratosphere usually populated by Serial, Drift and Spiny.

QR = 202.452
 496.996
 449.545
 503.922
1450.463

The build is very similar to what was already posted, except the power is stock, and the Sport WR is used.  I had to foreqo some tire width as well - and am running the stock 215mm Goodyear Street tires.

I hope to spend a bit more time with the car today, then it is on to either the Trans Am or the SS Camaro.

Oh, and build a GTO.  Need to do that too...

Fantastic set of times there Blooze. I'm espeically impressed with that Tsukuba time - you must have been right on the money when you ran that one. 8)

I haven't given an update on the Shelby lately. That is exactly what I found. Minimum weight is the best way to go.

I tried a power build to find some time on Silv. I ended up with the same accel rating as the LW version with only a .2 increase in Speed. I went out on Silverstone with trans the same and a second time with a lower FD. Only a two MPH increase to the top speed. Accel was not as strong but close. And the handling was decidedly worse. Loss of a second a lap.

I shudder to think of the times Serial would be doing with this combination. The lightweight Shelby is head and shoulders better than any other combination I tried (other than the glitched Charger).

This is the all around best muscle car combination in C Class. Blooze, your previous build was the most stable, but slower as I tried a halfway power/tire build also. Lightweight is definitely the fastest.

Funny you should mention those things Blooze.  I built that 20" wheel GTO up to spec, but I didn't have time to run the races with it.  I did take it out to Mugello short to see how well it would run....

....but I didn't make any gearing or suspension tweaks, I just ran it stock.  I managed two back-to-back mid 1:03.xx runs on the 2nd and third lap.  This was surprising to me because:

1. I didn't think it would handle as well as it did.
2. It's 3500lb weight with stock gearing and 385hp sounded like a touchy combo.
3. 1:03 is the best I could manage with the two other FULLY tuned and tweaked cars that I had built.

I was also surprised at the GTO. It wears its weight very well. I did get into the 1:02's on Mugello with it, with only the 205 wide tires. It's not up there with the Shelby, but it is definitely competetive with the rest of the cars. Much better than usual, where its being beaten like a Buddy Rich solo.

Thanks for the kudos on the run.  I don't remember much about it in that I was still in shock at having just beaten the Charger out the top spot in the Amateur Iron Works races.  I think I was running over the stats in my head trying to figure out, "Why?"  Interesting to note that the light weight version has a P/W ratio of .110 vs .102 for the mid weight/power version.   Also, along the same lines, the GTO has a P/W ratio of .112, perhaps an insight into why it does so much better than tires and weight allude.

By affording the GTO special dispensation on tire width (205 mm rather than the required 215 mm) we get another car into the mix.  The allowance does not afford the GTO any extra parts - it goes onto the street as was already noted, heavy and poorly shod.  It does manage to compete however.  In fact, due to a rather stupendous 61 second run on Road Atlanta, it currently holds top QR honors in my Muscle Inc C Class stable.

It should be noted that the GTO is the benefactor of many miles of practice (1128.36) and if given an opportunity, cars that were run earlier most definitely would improve their standing.  None the less, the GTO currently sits as my 3rd best car in this exercise with times of...

 499.779
 452.101
 505.646
1457.526

Perhaps even more noteworthy is that the GTO also set a Top 40 time on the Suzuka West race (#4 in the series), with a 439.344.

I think we'll go ahead and put a fork in this one.

Thanks to everyone for their participation and congratulations once again to Serial for boggling our minds with the times he's able to lay down.

I think this spec produces 9 relatively balanced cars that can compete with each other, and are competitive in C class as well.

Real life car crash got a bit in the way  >:( I'm planning on sticking with this challenge for a while to get used to the muscles a bit more, cause I obviously suck with them at the moment. I had the best result with the default fdog tune so far. I tried the one blooze posted as well but wasn't very fast in that. So I guess I return all settings except FD to stock and practice, practice and practice some more till I get used to the car and then after that try some of the tunes posted to get a feel for how the different settings affect the handling. And then hopefully I can derive some half descent tune who fits my driving style from there  ::)

I'm allright appart from the obvious neck, shoulder and back pain, which should go away in the next couple of days. Someone hit the side of my friends car with 50 m/h. Luckily todays cars are quite safe, wearing my seatbelt helped as well  :)
