Fndr was out in the Tiny Terror Miata, albeit without some of the custom vinyls.  It was a nice day to be out running the twisties, even if they weren't that twisty.  It's always a good way to clear your head, just you and a machine out carving some corners.  However, that's always when the cell phone rings.

Doc:  You wanna tell me why we're working on this?

Fndr:  Well, sure, but you'll have to be more specific.

Doc:  I was thinking we mostly did old cars, but somebody just dropped off a 350Z.  Not exactly our strong suit.

Fndr:  Well, someone wanted a good flowing track car, and this is what they had.  I told him we'd work on it.

Doc:  Good enough.  Want me to start ordering stuff?

Fndr:  Sure.  Just make sure we have the biggest, stickiest tires we can get.  If there's a question, call me back.  I'll be over with lunch, if you like.  You want a burrito?

Doc:  Yeah, that'd be good, but don't get me any of that habanero stuff you eat.  I won't sleep for a week.

Fndr:  Fair enough.  One weenie wrap coming up.

Doc:  Just get yer ass over here.

(They hang up after a bit of laughter)

This is a project I threw together for a fellow forumite after the Maple Valley enduro a few weeks ago.  I wanted to clear it with him before putting it on here, since it was a collaborative effort and included a good bit of messaging back and forth to find out what his driving style was like, where mine was similar, etc.  Luckily, both of us are only academically aware of the concept of throttle control, so I went in with the assumption that my tuning would yield some results.  Build sheet forthcoming.  I just wanna see if I can find more of my notes on this in its stock form, why I made the changes I made, etc.

Found my old message.  comments, as appropriate, are inserted in brackets and italicized below.

[I just ran a 1:34.014 with it.  There's more in it, but I'm not sure exactly where I'm headed next with the toon.  This is a 54.5% bias, 75% SWR in the Tonka Toy toon, if you're wondering where I got my numbers.]

I couldn't find my old laptimes (edit:  found 'em.  See above.).  I thought I remembered getting it into the low 94's.  I re-ran it for ten laps to get a ballpark idea, and my time was 94.473 (re-ran for a 94.210), leaving a little time out there, so it might break 94, but it won't catch my tiny terror 2000GT, at least in my hands.
Here's the build, with paraphrasing of the conversational tidbits I threw in:

323 hp
285 lb-ft of torque
2967 lbs

Power:
AEM street intake
Nismo street cams/valves

Platform:
Full race w/sport weight reduction

Tires:
Toyo Sport compound 245/275 (max width) on Borbet Design TS rims, stock size (Best compromise on weight/tires was this, at least IMO.  The Race weight reduction comes with a fairly large PI hit.)

Body:
Forza front, rear, and wing kits, Nismo side skirts, Top Secret hood  (In addition to looking cool, this drops some weight and some drag.  I'm almost tempted to try one of the aftermarket front kits.

Benchmarks
0 to 60: 4.744 s
0 to 100: 11.997 s
Top Speed 161.6 mph (I am doing well to hit 150 on the start/finish straight of Maple Valley)

60 to 0: 109.5 ft
100 to 0: 291.4 ft

1.06 lateral g's at both 60 and 120 mph (not sure what to make of this, especially since the rear wants to kick out just a bit)

The Toon (front/rear except as otherwise noted)
Tires 29/29 (This is my stock setting, and unless I see a problem, I usually keep it here)
Tranny:  FD 3.90, Gears 2.89, 1.99, 1.51, 1.17, 1.00, 0.85 (4th was originally 1.20.  That was a problem, and I was coming up on the redline a little too hard on a couple of spots.  I decided re-run this with a 1.15 or so and see what happens.  Looking at the transmission screen, though, that wasn't a good idea, so I met myself in the middle.  Other than that, the ratios are pretty good, though.  You only see sixth on the start/finish straight, which is by design, and only up to fourth on all but a couple of straights, again by design.)
[Original Comment:  Individual ratios are stock.  For Maple Valley, it might be OK to length fourth gear a bit for a little extra room in the rhythm section before a shift is necessary.  I'm hitting 5th at a fairly awkward spot right now.  I don't know if it's costing any time, but if it is, then that change could immediately make this car more competitive]  (note that this turned out to be the case)
Camber -.5/-.5 (left stock, never had an issue with tire heat, but might want to look into this for longer races.)
Toe 0/0 (I might recommend a little bit of toe in for stability)
Caster 5.5 (stock setting from v3 of Fdog's tune, and I like it just fine, so I often just stick with it.)
ARB 16.47/19.70
Springs 605.9/505.9 (These are from the tonka calc.  However, they're stiffer than the default, to try to get the car more stable while handling the high-speed sweepers that make up Maple Valley.)
Ride height: 3.5/3.1 (left stock)
Rebound 9.3/7.7
Bump 4.7/3.8
Aero 100/120 (this is increased to keep the car on the track.  A future tweek might be to up the rear DF slightly, but I wonder about tire wear.  Then again, I AM running sport instead of race, so that's one benefit I can take advantage of.)
Braking 47% front bias, 90% total pressure (These are standard Fdog V3 values that work well for me.  If you use ABS, start at 110%.)
Differential 40 acc/ 30 dec (opening up deceleration differential might also help with the tendency to break loose.  Edit:  It did, dropping 5 points each to the values you see here.)

Well, there it is.  I'll write my collaborator about getting the original post back, but I'm pretty sure I've been faithful to my thought processes in recreating the write-up here.  Comments and criticisms are welcomed

As a side note, there were very few differences between what I remembered and what was written down originally.  The car feels better after its improvements this afternoon, and might break into the high 1:33's now.  Also, Mike is running it on some other courses.  I'm trying to figure out whether, in the long term, I'd rather keep this as a redundant B-class flowing build, try to turn it into a grip build, or try to bring it up to A class, where it would compete with the Series 1 (not likely).

What class/PI does this build get you to, is this a B700?

Its a good car and build,  I ran the Fairlady Z back in the B700 endurance on Maple Vally.  It was a great car until i messed my aerodynamics up n the second lap.  fndrbndr was nice enough to assist me with some feedback and help with the tune for this car.  I ran it today with a friend on sunset infield short and it was surprisingly well balanced.  Good speed down the straight tight in the turns.  I would like to thank fndrbndr again for his help with this little project.  Try it, you might take a liking to it.

Pictures to come

It was a pleasure.  That's what this site is for.  I could see Sunset being a good fit for it.  It should flow well enough for the twisties, but still have some oomph for the oval.  Any idea where the laptimes were on it?

I ran a 1:04.123, not the best it could do.
