Seating for Two: Part I

OldSchool Speedshop, Saturday morning after unpacking...

DD: I got a call from Trixie, last nite, Bert. BTW, she says you use to much coffee in the coffee.

Bert: Coffee pot's sittin' right there, Mister! It ain't got my name on it. If you don't like it..

DD: Easy there, Bert. Back to Trixie. She got another sponsor, that kid's cereal with the rabbit. What's that called, again?

Bert: Bunny Flakes? Hell, I don't know. Come to think of it, this coffe is a little...

DD: There's more. She says she picked up a sweet deal on a sweet two-seater and she wants us to run it in the ALS race next week.

Bert: Another Corvette? Boss, we got two and can't run one of them in ALS. What are we gonna do with another Vette?

DD: It's not a Vette. It's a Series One.

Bert: Series One, eh? Now that will be a fast one. I can't believe she got her hands on one of those.

DD: Trix seems to find a way to get whatever she wants. The girl has skills. Uh, Bert? Tell me you're changing filters when you make the coffee. You're not just putting the new grounds over the old ones?

Bert: Well, sure I am, Boss. Saves us money don't you think? But I guess I should start pouring the old brew out of the pot, though. This is a little...uh...harsh.

DD: We better get rid of this stuff and head to the donut shop. We need to make plans for that Series One. Here, take the pepto with us.

Gentlemen, It is the battle of the two seaters for ALS. We are running Silverstone on Tuesday evening, next week. ALS has three cars with limited passenger room, if I recall. They are:

Series One
Corvette Grand Sport
Corvette ZR-1

We will run this challenge for one week. It will end next Friday.

Track: Silverstone Grand Prix
Cars: Listed above
Restrictions: A class, 400 hp limit

Just a quick note about the 400 hp limit. I set the 300 to 400 hp limit restriction in the race. Some of the cars will not fit even though they are exactly 400 hp. So, you might want to set up a system link race to test your build and see if it will come in under that restriction.

DD

All they need do is go see if they can get into the 400 Hp Semi Pro race.  There is some hidden rounding going on - that is why sometimes "right on the money" don't fly.

Blooze

Good point, Blooze. Thanks. (DD)

Did my first test session with all three cars. The intent was to see if they were close to each other. These were with haphazard builds...just bolting stuff on to get the 400 hp and then filling in the gaps:

Series 1 ran 1:56.1xx
Grand Sport: 1:56.2xx
ZR-1 ran: 1:56.6xx

I tested in the A class enduro with AI on medium. Took two-three laps to get around that Z06 but then each car put distance on the field easily through the corners. The Series 1 was dogging him the entire first three laps until I figured out where to pass.

This should be fun. And there is money to be made in that enduro.

Build and Tune notes on my Series 1 are here: http://www.muscle-inc.net/index.php/topic,57.0.html

I love the Series 1.  It's not my fastest A class car (yet), but it feels very controllable.  Looking forward to running this challenge.

Mine, too, Hek. Serial has said he thinks it might be the fastest ALS Car...I remain unconvinced...LOL

My GS is running all aero parts...I am thinking that may not be necessar.

Oh, no...no requirement to run all of them...I just do that to make sure I have a good, close group of cars. Which one would you like, sir?

Silverstone!?  The whole damn track?!?  You evil, evil man!  I hope you've got a big cone budget, cause my car's gonna be orange by the time this one is over!  :D

I dusted off the ol' ALS cars and trucked them off to Silverstone.  I took them straight to the track, no changes from the last challenge.  My C4 handled great out of the box... only ran five laps with it, and all of them were within a few tenths.  My Shelby, on the other hand, was a handful.  I ran 14 laps with the thing and I'm still not happy with it.  I gotta fix its handling under braking.  It has crap turn-in, and it feels like I'm running on brakes taken out of a Camry.

Here's my times:

1:53.771 Corvette GS
1:53.464 Shelby Series 1
Don't make me go get my Bentley Hummer!

so far i've done a 01:56:033.

BMC, I did my early tuning on the international track and just ran the big track for track knowledge and times. Way to kick my times to the curb! Nice run.

Silent Flower, my GS is the one that needs the most work. I took aero parts off thinking she didn't need them and she is slower. Go figure.

I have a hard time running different versions of Silverstone... I have a hard enough time going into Maggots without forgetting which way to turn! :)

I tried lowering the downforce on my GS, too, but it gave me a big push through Copse and made it really tough to set up for Chapel.  Which was death for me, cause I have NEVER gotten Chapel right, in any car at any time.  It's my nemesis, and the reason I groan whenever I see Silverstone.

Nice choice of car type and track, DD!  I'm very happy to be running ALS cars on this track rather than Muscle, Inc.  I'd be swearing up and down if I had to drive a 500HP+ Charger around Silverstone!

is the Viper over 400hp stock? since it's not included?

Yes, my friend, the Viper ACR (?) is over 400 hp. I am thinking of working up a 400-500 hp class for ALS in the future because of these unfortunate exclusions.

Big Moo, I guess I am going to have to learn the damned names of those corners. You guys amaze me that you know that stuff.

New time in the Series 1: 1:53.007 (I have a feeling that won't last long...LOL).

LOL I'm abbreviated as "Big MC"!!!  I feel like an 80's rapper!   ;D

I don't know the names of many corners overall, just the ones that give me trouble! :)  Silverstone starts with Copse, then Maggots, Becketts, and Chapel in rapid succession.

Chapel is the one that always pisses me off... it's the right-hander leading onto the straight.  If you mess it up, your lap is over right there.  I've never been able to run a late enough apex to clip the end of the left rumble strip.  I really need to follow a fast ghost through there sometime to learn that corner!

First time out and I guess it's not too bad...

Hekalite  Series 1  1:54.926

Definitely more in there as I'm still learning my way around this track (without the breaking line).  This track is so damn flat I really do miss that line here.  I've just about kicked the habit everywhere else (except maybe the ring), but there are a couple of breaking points I just shoot straight on through or else I find myself breaking way too early.  I'm sure you guys know which corners I'm talking about.
