OK, here is my strategy for making up the 0.010 seconds and catching the Rat.  I'll bump De Castro's car just enough to shave the paint a little on the front of my car and cross the line 0.011 seconds earlier!

Last night I KNEW I was in trouble when I saw that the Rat was on lap 1 of 7 in Career.  Just HAD to be the 'Ring of course!  I thought seriously about sending you a message when I saw the lap count was rising so slowly, just to put you off your concentration ;) ;)

On another 'Ring exercise, in class B with the toon that Jay published for the Honda CR-X.  Jay says it handles really nicely and I have to say his toon makes it far more friendly.  No longer do I regard it as haunted by the ghost of a homicidal maniac, now it is as trustworthy as a bear coming out of hibernation.

In my hands the CRX is still 30+ seconds off his time at 08:20.863.   :o  Just happens to be 0.563 seconds behind, guess who?  Yep, it's the Rat again!  I have no idea how to make a dent in that 30 second gap.

The best result last night was in Career Professional Series (I think) class A on the short Mugello when my Elise made an event time in the top 200, and less than 3% off the world's best time for the event.

It's a fun chase  ;D

Yeah, I guess that 'nicely' is relative and in this case, it was relative to the other missiles in my stable. Love the descriptions!! lol

You may find some clues to cutting down that time by watching the replay. They are pretty easy to spot over in exhibition mode and you can always send me a FR if you like. That goes for you too Rat. I know that both of you are still missing from my list.

Jay, I looked at some of the replay footage before taking the "tamed" beast out on the 'Ring.  Studied your throttle and brake usage carefully for about half a lap.  It looked so easy that I thought "I can do this".  Hmmm.

Thanks for the suggestion about sending a FR.  Did that.  Now I can be further humbled when I look at the scoreboards  :-[  For true masochism, I'll chase your ghost!

I said in my last post that I was starting to get hooked on this race, a few days later and I am now positively obsessed with it. At the moment all of the time I spend on Forza is devoted to getting round the 'Ring as fast as possible.

I've been changing the tune little by little and only re-running the enduro when I think I can take a healthy chunk off of the total time. The first change was dropping the ARBs by a further 2% to try and stop me scrubbing speed through some of the longer corners. The accompanying enduro attempt was not the cleanest I've run and I spent a fair amount of time riding barriers. The only reason I stuck with that attempt is that on  the second or third lap I set a new PB of 7:16.8XX, in the end I only managed to shave 5 seconds off of my total enduro time finishing with a 51:31.222.

My next change was to drop the Acceleration setting of the differential down to 45%, this change allowed me to attack the corners like I hadn't been able to before particularly in the section between the two Karousels. In that race I was constantly trying to best my lap time but would make a mistake whenever I looked like beating it, however even with the mistakes it was my most consistent run yet with at least 3 laps in the 7:17s and a starting lap of 7:21 resulting in a race time of 51:21.859

Today's change was a drop in damper settings to try and gain more traction over the bumps. In Exhibition mode testing I set yet another new PB of 7:14.143, absolutely destroying my previous fastest time.  I've yet to run the enduro with the latest tune but I'm hoping to shave another 10 seconds or so off of my race time.

Current Toon:
Tires: 28/28
F.D: 4.42
Camber: -0.7/-0.5
Toe:       0.0/-0.5
Caster:   5.2
ARB:      18.09/12.50
Spring:   329.0/473.6
Rebound:6.0/9.0
Bump:    3.0/4.5
Aero      Stock (Candidate for the next big change)
Brakes:  49%/95%
Diff:      45%/65%

I thought I would give this a try with your setup Rat, and I really liked it. The main difference is that I used the 4.20 final drive ratio, using 4th gear for almost all of the turns. My final time was a 49.42.152 with two or three small offs that cost me a total of 6-8 seconds. I don't really know what happened but I managed a level of cosistency I have never seen before. My fist lap was a 7:10.7, followed by the crazy part: Lap 2- 7:05.023, Lap 3- 7:05.124 :o My fast lap consisted of three splits in a row showing 0.685 up, and I spent a third of the lap in the green by .4. In the end, I managed second behind Bryce with a fast lap of 7:02.823 (.5 up on the last lap before I stuffed it) and shaved 32 seconds off my previous best. Most of that has to come from how predictable the car was.

You guys are incredible!  And such cooperation.  Love this community.

About the aero, Rat, did you set it pretty much at the center?  I tried the default settings which are at the center and found that I needed more downforce to be comfortable.

@landstuhltaylor: Thanks for the input, I'm glad you like the tune. I had a look at your replay and noticed that my gearing was costing me 5-6mph in straight line speed, after dropping the F.D. back to 4.20 I still couldn't keep up as 6th gear was sapping speed. I run an auto-box so I have no way of stopping the change up to 6th so I've lengthened 5th to 0.92.

This setting stops the auto from selecting 6th everywhere except briefly at Flugplatz and if the car goes light at the fast right hand kink before Aremburg. In each case the drop in speed due to the gear change is minimal so I think it is a worthwhile fix for auto-box users.

@GBO Possum: Yes, the aero is at the center (132lb/309lb), I've still not played with different settings for this car. I'm happy with the amount of grip so I'm unlikely to raise the aero at all but I'm not sure I'd be happy dropping the aero settings much either. I might try a couple of Exhibition runs with lower settings and see how I get on.

I'm in the middle of this race right now, taking a break in the pits while my hands uncramp.  I couldn't remember what other settings you guys were using for this so i'm running full sim, hard AI, auto trans and w/ABS at the moment.  I'm not doin too bad, i'm running in the sub 7:20 range for a hotlap, but the car is a little dinged up now too.  I'll post my times when i'm done,....two laps to go.....

......ok, done.  Here's the details.

My tune is straight from the V4.03 calcs(unreleased), with a full custom tuned trans.
Trans tune:
FD: 4.35
1st 2.6
2nd 1.86
3rd 1.44
4th 1.18
5th 1.0
6th .86

I can post the full tune if you guys are interested.

Surprisingly, even though I had some slight contact with traffic on a couple of occassions, and I did brush the wall at least twice, the final damage report was  0 credits.  The cars bodywork was scuffed, but I still had all my parts, so it all worked out ok.

Lap 1 cold tires start, fighting to get around 2nd and 1st place cars.
Lap 2 good hotlap
Lap 3 started lap with tires at 65%, finished at about 90%, not fun. Pit lap.
Lap 4 First hotlap 7:17
Lap 5 Pit lap
Lap 6 Getting tired, a few minor mistakes, hands cramping.
Lap 7 A 2+ second mistake at the sharp right after the pit entrance pissed me off something fierce, so I buckled down an blasted the rest of the course.  No mistakes, much tire noise, lots of adrenaline.

Thats good for a rank of 848 on the hotlap boards.

Reward for winning the race with no damage:  $369984
Hotlap(PB): 7:15.804
Race: 52:31.640
Knowing that the V4 calcs work this well: Priceless

I've finally gotten around to rerunning this endurance race. I knew I would need to set aside a good block of time to get it done, and I was right.

Took a shot at it yesterday afternoon and crashed out halfway through the 3rd lap. I could see that getting to 3 laps between pit stops was a tires instead of fuel challenge, but I hadn't realized how evil the car was going to get once the tires went away. (They should call these things Vipers, not those benign Dodge beasts.)

Fired up the box this morning and took another run at it. This time I was more careful on the 3rd lap and made it to the pit stop. Unfortunately the pack caught me while I was in the pits (they were running at the Medium incompetence level) and I came out right in the middle of them. After nearly a lap I got clear and motored away.

At the start of the 6th lap I came in for the 2nd and final pit stop. And came out right in the middle of the bunch again. This time I wasn't so lucky. Somewhere near the 3/4 mark in the 6th lap I got brake checked, whacked the armco, and pretty much destroyed any semblance of handling the car had. Time to take a break.

3rd time is the charm, right? This time I drove like one possessed and then came in after 2 laps. Came out in the clear and did 2 more sprint laps. Came out in the clear again. I took it a bit easier on the final 3 laps to see if the tires would last a little better for that last one. Maybe they did, but not much. I did get to the end, with a 52:19, but it wasn't pretty. The Viper 911 could hardly contain its animosity towards me.

It was worth the effort as I bested my old newbie time by better than 3 minutes. Not enough to get past Possum and Spiny, but at least I could almost see them from where I finished.

Larry, I have to 'fess up.  I have re-run all the Endurance races with no pit stops.  I'm guessing that all the serious Scoreboard times are done this way.

So your time on the 'Ring is better than mine (as one might predict!)

Looks like you'll be doing a lot of Endurance (re-) driving over the next weeks  ;D

No stops at all? Wow, that must make for a low adrenaline experience. I'll have to try that sometime. For now I have one left to run in my rerun series - the final R1 race. I think I'll go full blast for that. Then I can review where I can find the 10 minutes or so I need to pull up to Detrick in the Career standings.  :D

No, your 52:01 trumps my 52:19 on the Nurburgring. And I think it will stay that way for a while - I don't have the temperament to hit it again in the Porsche real soon.

Larry, just turn off the tire wear and fuel usage for a pit-stop-free experience. It'll save you 10 or 20 seconds per pit stop in the Endurance races.

for most of the endurances i get top 100's so i'll try my hand in this one.  Actually i got sixth on that A-Class one, which was a surprise to me.
