Finally, I've got all the tracks run now, and I'm pleased to report that this car has surprised me. Despite the fact that I initially felt it was going to be poor, and that I rather limited myself by refusing to do an engine swap, I managed to more than meet my initial target of getting the car inside the top 500 for D Class.

Obviously there are times for other cars in my overall ranking that I couldn't beat, so the time on the scoreboards is not the one for this car. Instead, I'm pleased to say that the overall time for the 2007 Civic Type R is...

1hour 23minutes 01.939 seconds

which by my reckoning is currently good enough for 360th or 361st on the D Class scoreboard. I'll take that ;D

And finally, the QR for this car is 211.760 seconds. I know Blooze will question that, as it was set with a number of different tunes rather than just the one as he prefers to run it (maybe I should call it the MQR - Multitune Quick Rank - instead ;) ) but I feel that should give a good idea of what the car can do.

EDIT: Time corrected

:-\

As for only running cars I own,..... The only cars which are currently ruled out of the equation are the unicorns, the pre-order Nissan, the Subaru S204 and the Saleen S281E as I don't have one and can't get hold of one easily.

Hey Spiny!

If you would like one of the Saleen S281s, I would be more than happy to send you one. Just let me know if you have a color preference....

That would be way cool Jay. Just to make sure, that is the S281E (i.e. new model Mustang - LCE version) and not the standard S281?

I think I need to get faster if I'm to get anything more out of the Official Hotlap Challenge :)

D'oh. I didn't know that there was an LCE version. I was just talking about the standard S281.... It did seem kinda strange that you had said that you couldn't get ahold of one.  :-[

It was kind of you to offer anyway - that's one of the great things about this site: if you have an issue, someone will usually come along and help you out. I thought you were doing well having the LCE when you're from the States :)

Yeah, no such luck with the collectors edition here. I think that would have to be an eBay thing.

Come to think of it I don't even know if games/360s are 'regional' like dvds or if there are NTSC/PAL versions or what...

Jay, you can get an LCE in Canada. We could mail order from there. I heard of people doing that. Being NA region, no conflict.

The LCE cars were the Subaru S204, Saleen S281E (for extreme!!!), and the Ferrari 360 challenge.

That is interesting.  Is there a way a feller can get one of the LCE's on line at this time?  How ever it gets done, I would be interested in getting one of them.

I bought mine from a guy in Canada. He had bought one overseas on a business trip and came home to find his wife had already bought it for him. Anyway, you can not gift or sell LCE cars to people who did get a code for them.

Congratulations on completing this.  What an excellent job you have done.

;D  - eh Blooze isn't questioning the QR that much.  In fact, soon as I figure out how to document it, I wlll most likely be doing the same thing.  For my own rational, Any thing that can be accomplished in the tuning section of the game is fair game.  If you need to swap parts, then I think the purpose of the device is defeated.

Thanks Blooze - although I have to admit that it was hard work. I think that on every track there was one of Blooze or Buckstoon ahead of me, but usually the other one was sitting behind me too.

I have to admit to being surprised with that final time. The Civic doesn't really shine on any particular type of track. However, I think the secret is that it isn't totally lame on any of the tracks (except the Nissan Speedway) either. I have a feeling that the Civic is evidence behind my theory that the PI system isn't necessarily broken, but is only applicable if you run the same build (I don't think different tunes are such an issue) on all tracks. It will be interesting to see what happens when the random numbers lead to me running the same class twice with different cars twice...

That leads me back to the QR. With the Civic (and indeed the Ferrari) I don't have to worry because the parts are the same on all types of build/tune. But what happens if I end up running, say, a B-Class Beetle? Do I run the same build on all track types? Or do I have a different build for each track type, and once it's over leave the best of the 3 on? For now I intend to decisively prevaricate and wait until I need to make the decision... :D

Learned a new word from Spiny but seems the definition doesn't seem to fit the context of the sentence.
Prevaricate= to speak falsely or misleadingly, deliberately misstate or create and incorrect impression: Lie.
To stray from or evade the truth; equivocate

How you decide it will work within the rules of your game will be fine, no matter which way it goes.  But I would contend that for the QR to be a valid tool in your case, you would have to run one for each build.

Yes - unfortunately those two words frequently manage to entangle themselves in my brain :-[

@Blooze. I should have made myself clearer in my earlier post. Those were what are currently rhetorical questions which hopefully I will turn into real ones in future. However, I can say that I know where you're coming from on the QR. My spreadsheet is set up to give out the QR, PR, TR and FR for each car. Although the last 3 will all be done with the same build and broadly the same tune within themselves, the same cannot be said for the QR as it is currently set-up. Or at least it can't be said for all the cars... It also calculates what I term the Power Factor, Flowing Factor and Twisty Factor which compares a car against others in the class and shows which type of track the car is best at. Unfortunately, I don't have enough times in yet to be sure that these will prove useful measures of the cars' ability.

I think for now that this is an issue I'm going to duck until I need to address it.

D'Oh! Just noticed that there was a bit of a keying-in error on the Death Adder Track. The actual total time was 1:23.01.939
