Shelby Series 1
« on: January 15, 2008, 03:26:37 PM »
I'm sure others have played around with this car, but a search showed up nothin, so here goes.  I finally won the last of the cobra races today, and won the series 1.  I don't know why, but I LOVED the look of the car, and had to try it out.  I guess it looks like the bastard child of a miata and a viper, I dunno.  Anyway, it's starting in A class, so it's not got tons of room, but I'm wondering about turning it into an A-class car.  I went out to Laguna (don't know why, but I really like that track), and put down a 93.064 stock.  Not great, but then again, my driving isn't great either.  There's a reason I do a lot of D and C class racing.   Anyway, it handles a lot like the D class miata I just finished working up, and think I may turn this into my next project, since I only have one A-class car I can take online without being entirely embarassed (TVR Tuscan S).  I'm almost afraid to touch the handling, so I may add tires, hp, and brakes, and see what happens.  Thus far, I really like the amount of oversteer, just enough to know it's there.  Anyway, that's it for now.  I'd love any suggestions, since everyone else has probably been down this path before.

And while I'm at it, why are all the ones I've seen in the AH sporting such godawful paint jobs when the stock paint is so beautiful?

Hoplee has one of the sexiest Series One's I've ever seen.    ;D

If you search for the "2 seats for Silverstone" you should find some info on them.  They are one of the ALMS cars that Dirt Drivers heads up.  Yeah, I said it ALMS.  I personally don't have one but did win that series in a challenge with Spiny.  I may revisit it if you guys start getting as fast as my TVR's
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

We did have a challenge at Silverstone that involved this car and DirtDriver's ALS specs ( class A ) right after moving to this site. you might be able to find a few useful tidbits there...

Keep at it. The Series 1 is a very good car on the twisty stuff in A Class. I still have quite a few times set in it from a while back which I haven't beaten with other cars (yet! :D)

Well, I went and added a race transmission, clutch, flywheel, differential, and brakes.  I also put on some Goodyear racing slicks, all three aero parts, and some hp with a race exhaust and sport cams and valves.  This put me at A845, leaving me a few points to play with should I want to add in other race suspension and such.  I didn't do any weight reduction, and may not.  I ran Laguna Seca without touching anything in tuning mode, ran consistently in the low 89's.  I tweaked the final drive from 3.3 to 3.56, and beat my previous time by a little.  I'm not sure one final drive is really superior.  Then, I went into hotlap mode, where my previous best is 92.xxx with a Mustang Cobra R.  I knew I'd beat my previous best easily, but I did more than that.  88.382.  There's some tuning left to do.  I'll probably open up the differential a bit (62/62 as of this moment, I usually run 50/60).  I'm also tempted to take this thing to Sunset Infield with the old race transmission final drive and see what it can do.  Anyway, I'll mess more with it today, but it's already improving my times vastly.  I think I have a new favorite A class car.  And I can't get over how awesome it looks, either.
