S-Class Countach
« on: January 05, 2008, 07:22:49 PM »
A while back I stumbled upon a post here suggesting that the Lamborghini Countach would make for a good S-Class mongoose and wanted to give it a go. I've just started to run one and it makes a bloody good mongoose!

The setup hasn't been fine tuned yet, as it stands it's pretty much a standard BloozeToon with very little changes made by me.
I really want to sort out the gearing and diff settings before I attack the scoreboard again. I could probably get away with dropping the aero settings a few notches too come to think of it.

Let me know what you think,

I'm curious as to the width of the rear wheels that you chose to run. The countach can run some really wide meats out back compared to the front, kinda like the GNX

I haven't drove my Countach in awhile. I might just give it a look through and try to compare it to the TR512. I think that both of those may end up pretty decent mongooses.

It wasn't built out to top S Class. I built it to match, actually lower, the PI of the top car in the Toro Furioso.

It handled very well, but it didn't have a good top speed.

@Hop:
The rear wheels are 345/35R15. The tire width upgrade seems to change only the fronts on this car, I guess the rears are so fat in the first place they don't need upgrading.
The fronts are 255/45R15 which is the widest setting available.

@Drift:
My first build on the Countach was around S970 (same handling, less engine mods) as I was wary of building it with too much power. After running it for a while I was confident that it could cope with the extra power so changed the engine parts to reach S998.
It still doesn't have a great top speed (benches at 184.9mph) but it is nicely suited to the short tracks.

I went and revisited the Lambo earlier today. Actually, I built it out as A850. With street tire, and no aero.

It does have a ton of grip. With the way it was built for A Class, I had to put postive toe in the rear to get it to rotate. On the stock engine, it was almost impossible to light up the rear tires, unless at the starting line.

Now it still lacks the top end in S Class. But the grip is still there.

Checking out the competetion, the 512TR, It is just as good as the top S Class Thunder cars. Man it moves. It was nessesary to put a turbo on it, but there is no lag.

Drift - I did the same thing building it up to A850. (Don't think I put any aero on either). I found the Countach had a ton of understeer, if I remember correctly I ended up softening the front just to try and get the thing to turn. It still ended up being my fastest car at the time (although now various metal has beaten it in the career races I've run it in).

I'm falling back in love with the Enzo for S-class, and discovering a similar understeer.  On the plus side, it's almost impossible to break the tires loose, and I'm still more ham-fisted with the throttle than I'd like to admit.  I use the hand break a bit to cut my turning radius on some tracks.  Had to do that in the S-class world championships, which I'm running now, to take a couple of the turns in Suzuka.  I shudder to think of what would happen if I ended up at Tsukuba with that thing.

I finally took her out to a track other than the snakes last night and was shocked by the amount of understeer. It seems that the current tune is only suited to tracks that I only hotlap on but never race.

I've still got a fair bit of work to do before I get it dialled in the way I want it.
