B Class Cars eligible for Foreign Classic Tuning (FCT)
« on: September 13, 2007, 11:53:35 AM »
List of 'Foreign Classics' (B Class & lower)

Ferrari Dino
Ferrari 250GTO
Mercedes 300SL
Jaguar E-Type
Porsche 1973 Carrera RS
Porsche 1970 914/6
Toyota 2000GT
Datsun Fairlady Z (and variants made before 1976)
Lancia STRATOS
Lotus Elan
Lamborghini Miura

This list represents cars that I believe stand a good chance of running with the big dawgs of B Class. I have found success already with the Dino and 2000GT. The rest show definite promise. Projects posted in this Garage will draw upon this list of cars.

That's actually not a bad idea, TB. I've been ignoring it for so long I forgot about it. It's really too bad that they couldn't give us an early Lotus Eclat and there is no excuse for omitting the immortal seven. The last time I tried to drive a 7 in a racing game (GT4), I discovered that the PS2 doesn't have enough 'puter power to handle the car model on the track with other cars at the same time. It was as if the GT gods said "Have fun with a car you'll never be able to race!"

I see no reason to exclude the Elan now that it's been unfuggered.

Actually, I'm kinda hoping for a Morgan, but I don't think it'll happen. Either the Aero or the Plus 8 would be nice!

Ciao tutti!
Finally, I can take the covers of the GTO, the E-Type, and the Stratos!
How come the baby Porsche isn't included? Too small?

The only Porsche I can think of that's smaller than a 914 is the 550 Spyder, one of my absolute favorites from FORZA 1. The 914 is up there, which baby are you referring to?

What about the old Nissans?  The 432 and 432R.  I haven't played with them a whole lot, but my 432 keeps up with my 73 911 and 250 GTO pretty well.

The only other car I can think of is the Lancia Delta.  Dunno if you consider that a classic or not.

Also, are you running a spec series similar to Muscle, Inc, with DOT tires required?  I tune most of my B-class cars to that spec now, just to keep a similar feel as Muscle, Inc cars when the rules of the room changes to "anything goes".
Don't make me go get my Bentley Hummer!

ive been using slicks - but using same rules as Muscle Inc sounds nice, also opens the door to inter-garages challenge.

if so, anyone got any tips about good DOT tyres?

I think the 432R is covered under 'variants of the Fairlady made before 1976.' It's decently quick and is the only classic with an AWD option.

What year is the Lancia Delta? I'm pretty sure it's newer than 1976...

I'm not sure that I will try and limit tire selection for any of my FCT projects. My goal is to build the classics into cars that can handle any online room at any time. Most of these cars start off as 'D Class' with more than enough PI for some power and some slicks. It's hard for me to resist better tires if i can fit them under the PI restriction.

At some point I may start a spec series for these cars that is somewhat similar to ALS etc. It would probably require tires to be sport or racing. For right now, I'm content to build and tune the cars.

I don't think you can fit slicks on the 250 GTO without bumping yourself to A Class. Perhaps this car would be a good candidate for the DOTs. So far, my favorite DOTs are the Nittos and the Pirellis. My favorite slicks are the Yokohamas.

I feel like I should go ahead and make one thing clear:

I do NOT want to pile these cars onto the Muscle Inc scene as far as challenges and races go. If I did that, people would want to run them in the challenges, and that's not what the challenges are for. The purpose of the Muscle Inc Challenges is simply the advancement and tuning of American Muscle, which has been made very clear. Perhaps in the future there will be a challenge or other project that includes these cars, that's completely up to DD and Blooze.

Now, I WILL continue to run informal rooms that are open to any car made before 1976, Muscle Inc or FCT. The only restrictions I set on the room are B-Class and older than 1976. I try and discourage the missile cars and am not impressed by 1000hp Chargers. If you bring one into one of my rooms, don't be surprised if I choose Maple Valley Short Reverse or simply ask you to change cars. I can build and have built 'Missiles' out of FCT cars but don't personally enjoy racing them unless everyone in the room is running something similar.

So, if you want to race old Ferraris and Jaguars and Porsches (oh my!) just build it for B-Class and send me a friend request. I start a room almost every night and run till I get cross-eyed!
