Camaro SS - Amazing D-Class Potential?
« on: December 24, 2007, 10:52:21 AM »
For my attack on the D-Class board for Road Atlanta, I drove this car stock on the track.  Here's a comparison of the best stock time's I'd run before

Boss 429 - 1:38.xxx
Trans-Am - 1:40.xxx
Chevelle - 1:40.xxx
Charger -  1:40.xxx
Barracuda - 1:41.xxx
Camaro Z/28 - 1:39.xxx

Well after only 4 laps I had run a 1:37.110 with the stock Camaro SS (good enough for a top 1000 time)
I know I'm not the best driver, but has anyone else noticed this car breaking into the top 1000 on any other tracks, stock?

I've been working with all of the Muscle cars over in Spanky's Speedshop and a couple really have potential.  The SS is really a good car but there are a few that I can manage a bit better.  These cars are quite good in a variety of classes.  If you get a chance try out the Challenger.  It has the widest tires of them all but its heavy.  A little work should be all it takes to make the most of the extra traction.

By the way, glad to have you over here.  We are always happy to have muscle enthusiasts.

Very ironic that you would post this.  I was going to suggest that we run a D class challenge.  I think that would be a lot of fun.  I've  been working on a D class Z28.  I'll have to try the SS.

I'm running a D-Class challenge back at the Forza boards at Road Atlanta.  This car continues to amaze me, as it has broken the 1:35 barrier now

I know I'm not the best driver, and I've only fooled around with the tuning stuff, but still, i think that's pretty darn good.

I was runnin D-class Muscles yesterday and I have to say I really had to work to beat my SS ghost on Russels Viper.  It handles verys imilar to the Z/28 but has the torque of the big block to pull it out of a turn and down the stretch.  I do like the Camaro's.  The SS has always done well but its more of an all around car than a specialist.  In D though it would be tough to beat on a longer track without going for a scoreboard car.

Under the Muscle Inc B-class banner it is a solid middle of the pack car.  The Vette's seem to pull on it and a full grip Z/28 can out handle it.  Pull out a Blue oval and you have some serious competition.  The Boss can hang with it power wise and the KR handles close to the Z/28.  Ultimately all of the cars can be built to run well and the SS is an untapped resource.  I have one and I rarely use it.

That makes 2 cars I want to re-reun in the next open B-class Muscle Inc. challenge.
