Dec Muscle Inc. Challenge "This Bird's Gonna Fly!" - Closed
« on: December 12, 2007, 11:41:20 AM »
Well folks, it's time for us to get back to what we do best. Thanks to the early Christmas present from Turn10, we're able to welcome a sorely missed muscle car into the fold here at Muscle Inc., the fabled Firebird Trans-Am. With a powerful 455SD Poncho under the hood and the "screaming chicken" on top of it, this Pontiac is ready to take up the guantlet and challenge our more familiar American Iron. First, we'll be running the T/A through Blooze's current QuickRank tracks to get a feel for the car's strengths and weaknessses relative to different track types. After that, we'll be laying the rubber down on our other present from Turn10, Road America. If you don't have this track yet, I highly recommend it. It's a really cheap download at 100 MS points and well worth the price of admission to one of the USA's few truly world class circuits.

Specifications for this challenge will follow precedents set by previous Muscle Inc. Challenges. Those requirements are summarized below and a more complete description can be found in the Muscle Inc Specs posted elsewhere in this forum.

"Muscle Inc. B-Classic" Requirements:
->Car must have a PI Index less than 701 (B-Class)
->Car must be a North American front engine RWD platform older than 1976
->Car MUST RUN SPORT LEVEL TIRE COMPOUND also referred to as "DOT Tires"
->Though not outlawed, the Chevelle and Charger are not encouraged for use in Muscle Inc. challenges as they are able to run unbelievable levels of power on Sport Tires in B-Class. It is possible that any time recorded in either of these two cars will get an asterisk of some kind or be moved to an unofficial portion of the scoreboard.

Track List:
Road Atlanta Short
Tsukuba
Sebring Short
Road America

The Car:

The Pontiac Firebird DLC car.
*if you don't have it feel free to pick another Muscle Inc car and buid it to spec.  However the main focus will be on the Firebird for this one.  If your new here and have no DLC build out a car and run the QR portion to get yourself aquainted with how the challenges work.

Notes:

Cars must use the same tuning and upgrade paths on all tracks.

You know, after I run the Firebird, I'll probably try the Charger anyway just to see if it's going to run away from the pack. I had a ton of fun in my D-Class Charger last night. I think I'm one of the few that's actually built out one with stock hp... ::)

Make that 2 ;), I think. It was while ago, but I stuck on all the non-power upgrades I could - can't remember whether or not I had to add a minor part to get it up to PI400 or not though. But, with a bit of luck I'll be on with the Firebird before too long.

If I remember correctly, my Charger was right at PI400 with 375hp.

Checked back on it and I've obviously got a slightly different build on mine - it's carrying 384bhp so I must have added something.

Back onto the Firebird, I keep looking in the AH to try and find a cheap one with the screaming chicken (or stinking chicken as I've managed to stick in my head) but for some reason loads of people are selling the cars plain. At this rate I might actually have to get one from the dealer! (which is something I haven't done since going online).

I would've posted something already, but I obviously had no clue which tracks we were running as the QRs go.  I wound up running the same set that we used on the Supercars Challenge... boy was I wrong.  Although I did wind up setting my fastest time yet on MVSR...  go Screaming Chicken!

[EDIT:  Finally got my times in.]

I need to go fire up the machine and see just what I ended up with for upgrades on the T/A. PI698 with the next to the widest BFG tires is all I can tell you for sure. Plus a Blooze 54.5% tune and some tweaking with tire pressure and rear toe.

RA Short: 61.579
Sebring Short: 79.493
Tsukuba: 60.777
Road America: 141.121

I've obviously got some catching up to do, but that car is a hoot! I've finished my first round of hotlapping in the R classes lately and had been trying to figure out how to tame an FXX in U. The T/A is quite a welcome change. It is just like driving on icy streets here in Cedar Rapids.

This is one I will definitely be participating in. Unfortunately, my Trans Am did not make the drive through the snow today. :-[

I have to do this one... Road America is about an hour from me... and I've never been  there... :o

Sounds like you guys are getting what we got hit with a couple days ago.  Luckily it was cold enough and we got snow, and not ice...

Noob alert :)
Got my XB360 in Sept. and Forza2 was first purchase.  LUV IT!  I use the standard wireless controller.
Used to own a '70 Olds 442 (not the W32), back in the day, and rebuild the motor and tranny and
ran 13.06 at 106 at Capitol raceway in MD in the mid 80's in street trim.  Those days are over :)

I've been lurking at forums.forzamotorsports and then over here since about Nov. trying to get some tuning insight.
It has helped but I've resorted to Fuerdogs calc but I'm intrigued with the 545#.
My thanks to Feurdog, Blooze, Hoplee, and a SHI* load of others for their posts and insights.
I
've been running the career and have run every D class car in the professional series to see what cars i liked.
I've done some online racing and I TRY HARD to run clean but every now and then I screw up and hit someone but it's NEVER
on purpose and I will try to keep my line or out of the way of faster individuals.

I have seen some of the other "challenges" before but this one finally got me to join because I think anything in >= A class is still
WAY ABOVE my driving level.

My 73' Pontiac T/A "Purple People Eater"
HP: Sport Intake, Exhaust, Ignition, Fuel - Street Cams/Valves
Suspension: Race all - Street Weight reduction
Grip: Dot Toyo running 255X17
Aero: Rear wing  ( duh )
440 horses
523 torque
3726 lbs

Tires: 33f, 31r
Gearing: 3.10 FD with the default Race tranny gearing
Camber: -0.7f,-0.5r / Toe 0f,-.2r / Caster 5.3 (never have experimented with caster I just take the average of default and Feurdogs)
ARB: 13.98f, 10.12r
Springs: 769, 407.2  ride height: 5.3f/r
Dampers:  reb 11.7f, 9.2r / bump 10/7f, 6.6r
Aero: 75lbs rear (I'm contemplating 85lbs)
Brakes: 46%f bias, 110 pressure
Diff: 60accell /50 decel

all testing done in free run - only ABS

RA Short - 60.601 - lap 5
Tsukuba - 60.431 - lap 8
Sebring S - 78.196 - lap 11 (kept screwing up chasing my Elise ghost but I set a new ghost now!)
R America - 142.133 - Lap 4 - 0:00.2 penalty
extra credit tracks?  :o
RA long - 90.203 - lap 5
Mugello S - 61.389 - lap 4 -- Turn 4/5 and that downhill, off camber turn 6/7 usually makes or breaks me for good laps.

I'm not even close to you guys but it sure does help to motivate me, for now :)

Thanks a bunch for keeping this middle aged man (45) still a kid!

This challenge appears to be a bit of a slow burner, only 11 post in two days  ??? ???

I'm planning on running some laps over the weekend if I get enough spare time (where does all the time go???), It'll be nice getting back in a muscle car after flirting with those Supercars.

And by the way, is anybody interested in a Trans Am online session at some point tomorrow?

I'd love to see some more online racing  ;D
It is highly likely that the above post was produced with a drippy jowl.
