*Out of the top 100 cars, there are maybe 5 or 6 times that don't belong to Saleens or an Elise/Exige, namely two or three Paganis and a Cayman or two.
BARF! ::)

And now there is another Pagani ;)

I'm sure we'll see some demon times from TJN before long - I saw his Pagani was the first to get under the 36 second barrier at Maple Valley, I managed to beat him (first R390 in the top 100 ;D) and then he went and beat me again. It looks like that Zonda is going to be one tough cookie to beat.

Still, back to my car, and first of all it's the paint competition. It's one of my first paint jobs done about 2 weeks after the game came out, but I like it so I'll run with it :)

As for the times, the first thing I have to say is that I've always found the Nissan R390 to be pretty good, provided you keep the turbo spooled up. If you let that drop you've had it. So, that coupled with me driving a Nissan in real life meant that it was the obvious choice. Even so, I was pleasantly surprised by how quick it was - it's one of those cars which goes faster than you realise (as Ske has already said).

The top end speed was lacking a bit down the back straight at Road Atlanta, but even on that track the low weight (<1900lbs) and full downforce meant I was able to make up enough time on the turns to catch up with my ghost by the end. On Maple Valley I set a time I was pleased with yesterday, logged on today and saw TJN's sub-36, ran 15 laps and beat it, then saw him beat me again :( Meanwhile, the car really seemed to go well at Laguna, much better than any of my other cars. In fact, I ended up beating my ghost by almost 2 seconds.

The times in the end were:

Road Atlanta: 78.418
Maple Valley Short Rev: 35.806
Laguna Seca: 81.797
Total: 196.203

I'm pleased to see that these cars really are competitive in S-Class, at least on the tracks without long straights :D although I think that this R390 will suffer in online racing due to lack of straightline speed. Now, I'm just waiting to see what TJN pulls out of the hat ;)

That is one fine lookin' machine you got there Spiny!

I'm hoping to have enough progress on some of my other projects so that I can get started on the Supercars in a few days.

Having too many balls in the air at one time makes me crazy...

I hadn't run the other tracks with this toon yet Hop.

I'm seeing a pattern develop here.  I'm a one track wonder on these QR style challenges.  I tuned for MV only with full downforce (slightly less in back) which I think made it suffer on the other tracks especially given the car only has 438 hp.  Plus I simply can't drive Laguna for some reason.  I also realized I didn't touch the wb at all just the camber and downforce so I may go back and give it more of a normal Blooze toon and see what that does to the car.  It drives great though just a little under powered.

Zonda
2709 lbs
438 hp

MVR: 35.595
Laguna: 83.359
RA: 79.253
Total: 198.207

Edit: I moved a little weight to the front, 49% now vs. 46% stock, and took some minor time off.  I'm not sure if it's due to the weight change or me just having cleaner runs.

Edit: Managed to improve my run on Laguna.  Still not great but it's an improvement :)

This is myinitial attempt with the K'egg, but I may wind up putting the Avon's on it instead of the Good Years that I ran these times with.

Laguna Seca :  82.893
Road Atlanta :  78.776
MVSR :            37.508

Total :           199.177

I'm still shocked at how far behind I am on this one.  See, me falling off has already started. ???

I re-ran the entire gauntlet tonight.  Bought a new car, new paint, new build, new toon.  The best part is all new times.

Road Atlanta:   78.451
Maple Valley:   36.712
Laguna Seca:  82.407
Total:            197.570

So close but so far.  I was .040 behind Spiny on one track and a full second behind on another.  I think this Sagaris is about maxed out in my hands.  I'll have another shot at it after a short break.  I'm right there and its frustrating.   >:(

Seems our friends over at Panoz felt generous and sent us a sponsorship package from Elan Composites, a motorsports technologies subdivision of Panoz.  They are the company in charge of building ALL of the Champ Car Chassis.  As well as the unveiling of the new and improved Spanky's Speedshop Logo.  No more lettering an actual logo.

Sorry guys, I haven't even unpacked the 360 from the holiday trip yet. You have caught me napping. I'm looking forward to trying out these carbon fiber rockets.

I just can't believe that no one has tried out the GT or the Viper yet. For a site based in old US iron, I was figuring on a few NA discounts to go father. Ooops, the game doesn't give discounts for the ubercars do they.

I guess I'll have to give them a good shot tomorrow.

I know from my S class escapades from career, the Zonda has tremendous grip over the other cars.

Spiney, great times again. Especially with the R390. I was not impressed with it during some of my tries in Career. It seemed all over the place. I just couldn't get it to settle down. But then it wasn't a full build either, just PI matching. I guess it can be done.

Bimmer, I know that the GTR has temendous tire widths for A class and insane grip there. I had to trade out tire for power. It was entirely too stable with full tire in A class. I'm sure it would be balance itself out powering up for S class.

That is sort of sad really.  I have a brand new black Saleen S7 sitting in my garage, left over from my run at the NA collector achievment.

The thing will probably never see the light of day.  I might as well sell it.

Yeah... I actually think it doesn't have enough tire for the class... but I'm gonna work it none the less.

Zonda
2709 lbs
438 hp

I really hope you're running big fat Avons there TJN, otherwise it seems there may be something not quite right with the PI system. The equivalent numbers on my R390 are <1900 lbs (can't remember exactly) and 550 bhp. Having said that, to get the PI down I've had to run the Pirelli slicks and no rear bumper. Fortunately, the R390 handles well enough that you don't really need it.

I suppose the other thing is that I should ask what the torque is like. The R390 seems to have quite a hefty turbocharger on as all the power is at the top end - if you let the revs drop or the turbo de-spool (?) you're going to lose a fair bit of time. I haven't got a Zonda, but those figures suggest to me it's probably got a fair bit of torque too.

The R390  is a funny car is some ways. It feels slow, but turns out to be quite fast. And it seems to be very sensitive to tuning. Get the tuning wrong and you'll know it, get it right and it rewards you. I do have to admit that it's a nice feeling to put a different car to the tidal wave of Saleens and Exiges in the top 100 (MVSR) though. :D

Looks like you guys are bringing the times down quite a bit though - I can see someone beating me before this is out the rate you're going. A special well done to Fit for knocking 2 seconds or so off his TVR time (and nice paintjob too by the way). I think I may have a couple of tenths left on Laguna and there is 0.1 seconds penalty on the MVSR time, but the rest of the lap was so good I don't think I can replicate it. So,  if you beat me that will be me beaten permanantly I would say.

Edit: Sorry guys, it seems my maths (or calculator failed me). My total time in the R390 should have been 196.021 and not as stated above. All the individual track times are correct though. Once again, sorry guys, but on the bright side it does make me a couple of tenths faster. ;D

I am routinely ahead of my ghost by .500 or so on Laguna but I couldn't maintain the lead up to the corkscrew.  The first kink and the braking zone are my nemesis at the moment.  The lightweight build doesn't respond well to the stepped incline.  Its horribly unsettled unless you are on the far outside of the screw.  I'm not as consistant out there as I tend to be diving for an apex.  One thing that made my time much faster is, when cresting the corkscrew as soon as you let off the brake and begin the transition to throttle, upshift.  I brake down into 2nd gear but I upshift back to 3rd before accelerating downhill.  Maybe I'll keep that to myself, or am I just late to the party???  Far less tirespin and an easier acceleration to the folowing left hander.

I got through there clean and ahead of my ghost once.  Only once.  I then proceded to overshoot the last turn, and was caught and out-accellerated trying to get off of the rumble strips.  That's when I decided to take a break.

Maple Valley and Road Atlanta are pretty well sorted.  This build is 10 whole MPH slower on the straight at RA, but still faster.  I need to run a slower car around MVSR for practice and then go back for a good flogging.  I'm still not comfy there but in time it will come.
