The First Supercars Challenge-COMPLETED
« on: November 27, 2007, 09:42:41 AM »
Alright folks, this is the debut of the run group Hop and I have been putting together, the Supercars.

Supercars

The Cars:
Ferrari F40
Lamborghini Diablo GTR
Pagani Zonda

Mercedes SLR
BMW M3 GTR
Porsche Carrera GT

Ford GT
Viper Competition Coupe
Shelby Series One

Honda NSXR-GT
Nissan R390

Jaguar XJ220
TVR Sagaris

Koenigsegg CC8S

The Regulations:
Cars must have a PI of S998 or below.
Cars must use Slicks (Racing level tire upgrade)
Cars must remain RWD.

Alright.  Here's the challenge:

'Tis a Quick Rank challenge, similar to the LMMS one just completed.  I'm not cruel, so we're going to be running different tracks.  The tracks are: Road Atlanta (Full), Maple Valley Short Reverse, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

As this board stands now, these cars are the odd men out.  I hope this series can prosper and become yet another staple of this forum.

Without further delay...

What, no story?

Gavin, Sarah and 'Truck-drivin-dude' don't have anything to say?

I need well crafted dialogue and character development!

I told Cooter we couldn't use the GT2 he shoehorned pieces of that wrecked 959 into and he just started crying. When he realizes we're out of Milwaukee's Best, I'll tell him to check around back for more where I've got the Supercars parked. Maybe those'll cheer him up. ;D

Incidentally, I've got examples of almost all of these cars with a quick build on them. If you're short of $$$, drop me a line and I'll see if I can send you one of 'em. I'm only planning to keep two or three I think. If you're really brave, ask for the SLR! It's kinda 'muscly'... ;D

Time to dig up my old R390 it seems... I always liked that car for some reason, but it never seemed to be quite up there.

Spanky: (paging over the shop intercom)...tap, tap, tap,...Lynette is this thing, on?

Ms. Lynette: (chucking at her desk) Yes Spanky, its on.

Spanky:....Fit to the main office, Fit git on up to the office..........you think he heard that down in the lot there Lynette?

Ms. Lynette:  Hang up the phone Spanky, I see him in the lot headin this way already.

Spanky: (still over the loudspeaker)....oh, okay, just tell him to come in when he gits here.

Fit: Hang up the phone Spanky, I heard ya, hell ev'ryone heard ya.  (click)  What did you need, I'm workin on somethin special and I can't let it dry too much.

Spanky: Figgered you'd wanna see this, just got it off the intermail.  We don't need to buy any parts for this an' I think you'll be right at home with the cars.

Fit: (Leaning over lookin at the computer screen)  Its email Spanky, off of the internet.  Watch this. (clicks control-P, hits enter, and the printer starts whirrin) And there you go, on paper now.  (skimmin over the car list, eye's widen, mouth opens slightly)  Holy Crap Spanky, theres a TVR on this list.  (Pointing to the paper)

Spanky: I thought you might want to know 'bout that.  Now git on back before your paint dries, I ain't payin ya to do it twice.  What is it anyway, I don't got any paintwork on the books fer today anyhow.

...Fit shuffles out of the shop pouring over the new challenge, passes right on by Ms Lynette (who always makes eyes at him), and wonders out the front door before realizing the paint shop is the other way.....
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Well since you asked Bimmer...  Built a Zonda and a Koenigsegg.  Zonda might be a little low on power, you can't fit in any engine mods in S, so I'm not sure how it will do on the longer tracks.  Did a few quick laps on RA, nowhere near my best possible and no tuning, and I'm way up there in the 12000s or so.  I put a little more effort into tuning the Koenigsegg on MVR and made it into the 200s.  That's all I've run so far.  These cars are fun.  I've not really messed much in S class before.

Those were two of my major goals for this series - to have fun and to explore S.

TVR Sagaris Grip Build (under 500hp)  8)

Laguna Seca:             83.504
Road Atlanta:             79.039
Maple Valley Reverse:  37.243

Not the greatest and hardly a benchmark but I'll take it for out of the gate.
+5% Springs, +10% ARB's, +5% Dampers, Moderate Downforce, and more camber than I'm used to.

Now to add more power as it seems I have 20 seconds to make up on Road Atlanta to catch Hoplee. Are you SERIOUS!!!  :o

JEi Track Cars, early Wednesday morning...

bimmer: Alright folks, we've got a new project.  We're working an E46 M3 GTR for the new Supercars series.  We're bringing out the big guns for this one.

Sarah: When you say "the big guns"... whatta ya mean?

bimmer:  Well, I was just gettin' around to that.  Gavin:  I'm thinking we should bring in Dinan to help us with these engines.  They do BMW Daytona Prototype engines, and I think they could help us out with this V8, too. Think you could fly out to California to help 'em out?

Gavin:  Sounds good.

bimmer: While you're there, mind keeping tabs on the competition out at Laguna?

Gavin: No problem.

bimmer:  Alright, good. Sarah: I'm going to be working with the guys over at Ground Control to get the suspension for this car in tip-top shape.  That means that you are in charge of the shop.

Sarah: Alright.

bimmer: This is one of, if not the most ambitious project we've attempted so far.  Let's knock this one out of the park!

Alright.  I'm gonna get this M3 up to speed.  More to come about the car tomorrow!  :)

I made my assault in a Pagani Zonda with Good Year slicks.

Laguna Seca                      :  83.302
Road Atlanta                      :  79.660
Maple Valley Short Reverse   :  37.541

I'll try to come back to this challenge, but my internet time, as well as my time on Live, has been and will continue to be extremely limited.

I had a blast running with a few of you guys tonight, I can't wait to go back and watch the replays of a couple of really close runs with Fit and Hop.  It was also nice to finally race with you Qmole.  Hopefully if I ever manage to get back on, I'll be able to run with you guys again.  Thanks for the racing.  Good luck out there fellas!

TVR Sagaris Power Build (just under 550hp)

Built this one out after runnin the grip build and even though it has marginally more power it is heavier, no weight reduction and it has heavier than stock wheels.  One thing I did notice was that while looking for the optimum S998 setup I was able to add a slightly more balanced tire to the power build.  I built it to attempt an even out the torque/hp values and its still not even close.  Those 6 cylinders just don't make good square power numbers.

I was only able to imporve time on one track Laguna Seca, and only by .200.  I'll have to go back through and work the suspension bias a little better to reduce the push it develops ofter a few laps.  As I've seen before it may have a little too much front downforce.

Side note:  I applied the 54.5% bias to the Aero.  Thats right I added 'em up and divided the weight evenly front and rear (per bias)  That set the front downforce to 126 and the rear to 185 after a minor tweek.  IIRC I took 5lbs off of the front and added 15 to the rear.  I did this because I find that adding rear downforce only caues a push.  Like I said over in the Speedshop, Aero Testing.

I think it proved itself online this evening as I was able to run competatively with the likes of Hop, Open 2nd, BufordTJustice and all of the rest of the guys that were in the room with us.  I'm usually a backmarker at best.
