West
41.460
East
94.544

First set, ran about 5-6 laps on each track with no tune just the built car to get a feel for it all;

1994 Civic 1.5 VTi

Road     136.802
West      41.681
East       95.731

West is good, but i got a lot of time to make up on the road course, a full 6 seconds behind Ske at the moment!

Fun challenge though :)

Might as well share the tune I've been using since they seem to be pretty good for these cars. Much of the numbers are inherited from Blooze's Tsukuba GT-R, with some Feuerdog-derived dampers and a slight twist. I don't know how many times are set on Motegi compared to the 'normal' tracks, but all my best Civic laps seem to be around #250 for now.

Tires: 29/29
Gearbox FD: 4.20 (default other gears)
Align: -0.7/-0.6; 0.2/0.0; 5.7
ARB: 11.5/10.0
Springs: 475/400; lowered by 2 clicks.
Dampers: 7.1/6.5; 6.4/4.4
Aero: Default (50%)
Brakes: 46/54 front, 75% pressure
Diff: 50/35

All the cars have been running the same numbers... the gearing varies a bit from car to car, I'll revisit that.

Built out three Civics so far, two of which I have ran a full set of times for.

2006 Civic Si Coupe

Full:      133.617
East:      94.837
West:     41.564
=============
Total     270.018

2004 Civic Type-R

Full:      132.622
East:      95.655
West:     41.391
=============
Total     269.708

These times were done with no tuning whatsoever. I wanted to run the builds first to get a baseline before I started messing about with them.

Still have a to put some laps in with the Mugen, and build a WW and VTi.

If there's a way to do it better... find it.

I put together a grip build 04 Type R.  Ran a few laps around the large track and I GUARANTEE that the trans needs my full attention.  I'm only running 2nd, 3rd and an little bit of 4th and for a peaky little 4-banger that is way off.  Still able to put together a 135.138.  The last switchback section is gonna be one of my track nemesis'.  I think the majority of my time will be made up learning the track then tuning out my deficiencies.

More tomorrow or Saturday night.  Assuming I don't get tied up chasing seconds against Spiny.
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

I had a C class WW Civic collecting dust, so I ran that around, but couldn't beat some times I'd set with another car when the DLC was released.  So I bumped a VTi up to C and tried again.  That could beat my existing times and I know I left time on the track.

1994 Civic VTi FWD       Motegi Full Road Course        134.205
1994 Civic VTi RWD       Motegi Full Road Course        136.016

I know what I think about this issue but I'm curious about what the rest of you experience. Is RWD always going to be slower than FWD (classes D-B) on any track that isn't a drag race?

No... I wouldn't say that at all - I've got a friend who had a top-10 time on Boomslang in a Solstice in D.
It is highly likely that the above post was produced with a drippy jowl.

Well, for me - the answer to that question is yes.  Power is the single caveat that can change it.  If the car has enough power to make up for having to wait for it while in the turn.  B seems to be the class where is starts to turn around.  The NSX challenge sort of showed that.

I watched that video of the guy dancing around the ring in that Yellowbird.  That is exactly the reason I opt for Front or All wheel drive.  I do not like having to continually nursemaid a car to keep it facing forward.

One thing my playing with the R cars recently - that and BlackBird's set up for the NSX has me looking at my Rear wheel setups.  I suspect none of them has enough down force.  I always try to keep it at a minimum.  I probably need to crank it up to help screw the car down to the track, and then use the FD to make up for the loss in velocity the best it can.  There is a sacrifice in the top end, but that is seldom an issue on most tracks.  Witness the success of the VTi in this challenge.

Anyhow, that is what I think of that...

I'd like to start a prize chest for the top placing RWD Civic. I'll start it off by donating a free paint job chosen from anything I've painted so far, including the GTP ZX-T and Flowmaster Cuda. If the winner chooses the cash option instead, I'll award 200K credits.

EDIT} I can also award certain R-Class cars or other hard to get items from North America. ;D

Boomslang is sort of tailormade for a RWD - how did he do on King Cobra or Black Mamba with that Solstice?

y, i was playing with RWD civic earlier and same issue... though i also hae yet to try and dial it out...

now the AWD variant, i reckon thats got a real chance, lots of power and tons of grip - be interesting to see if it can beat the FWD variants.

(ive yet to work the course out yet, so my times are irrelevant, but the AWD is my fastest so far)

btw, the reason the CRX is allowed in the Golf vs Civic race, in FM2 the CRX is marked as being in the Civic family... but i have more than enough options without these extra civics :)

90% of my D-class times are set with a Solstice.  There not any good (IMO) but online I have had fair success whoopin up on the FWD's.

Personally I prefer that driveline.  If I was obsessed with being #1 I couldn't/wouldn't use it in lower classes but I averaged a top 200 D-class rank with them.  I could improve that by running a Chevelle/Charger on the oval and NY as well as by focusing more time on running King Cobra.  I'm not the best at the snakes but I bet that the Solstice would be good for top 100 in the hands of a better or more persistant driver.

I also like having to chase the back end around exiting turns.

It was as part of a series - we never ran Cobra or Mamba, but I think it'd do quite well.  Like Fit, the car can whoop on the others online.  I've got one, too - it's alot of fun.  I keep meaning to make another D RWD car.

While they may not be the best for time trials, I find that I race better in RWD cars - easier to adjust my line, I think.  I dunno.  I'll look into it in more detail later.
