I gave up the '99.. it's just slower than the others for some reason. Even with my "new" tuning tricks I couldn't make it competitive - in fact, I hardly improved my times at all... so I'm starting to think it's the engine or power delivery that's somehow poorer on that one.

I swapped the engine for the k-20-A, thinking that would solve the problem.  It hasn't so far...

In effort to remove myself from the basement of this challenge, I ran some more times.  Nothing exciting, just repetition and I did take the advice presented earlier of giving up power for grip.

Motegi Road Course: 132.901
Motegi West: 41.204
Motegi East 94.885
Total: 268.990

All done with the 07 si type r awd.

No worries Stank, I'm still on the steps tryin to find my way up.  You should have seen it when I first got here, they had a whole seperate leaderboard for "Lap Traffic"  I was on top of that one  :D

You'll improve as we all do the tools are here, and the challenges are just practice.

Every time I sit down to try and improve my times on this challenge I try to skip over my KR but its performance of late has really peaked my interest.  Somehow parking the Shelby to take out the Honda isn't cuttin it.
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Oh my, 8 pages....

I'm such a slacker.  Still too much going on for me to jump in on this, but I just wanted to stop by and say that I have not completely abandoned ship.  I will return to more active participation when my schedule allows. :)

Well Fit, looks like you're going to win the prize for fastest RWD civic. It was pretty stiff competition! (okay it was just me~) Let me know if you want a painted car or the $$$. I doubt anyone is going to beat you before closing time on this one.  ::)

Knew I'd forgotten something :P

Tried slotting the RWD engine into my 2 slowest cars... Both were quite slower than their best FWD times (I have run quite a bit faster than the last results posted with the Si), but it's more than likely due to the tire and weight downgrade caused by the high PI powerplant. The Del Sol ran on Kumho DOTs, and the Si had to cope with skinny 175mm slicks - and neither allowed any weight reduction. Not only were they slower, they were also much harder to drive. Because the rear wheels tried to break loose every time my hoof came down, I had to tune them for understeer to balance it out... making them unpredictable and a bit twitchy - pretty hard work and not very easy follow the lines.

Anyway, here are the results:

1999 Si coupe
RWD

Full:           133.297
West:            41.574
East:            95.100
-----------------------
Twisty total:   269.971

1995 CR-X Del Sol SiR
RWD, DOT tires

Full:           132.454 (1st lap)
West:            41.601
East:            95.014
-----------------------
Twisty total:   268.669

Well Ske, unless someone pulls off a new set of times in the very near future, you're going to need to decide on a prize!

I think it'd have to be done in one of the newer Civics to be honest... one that doesn't get a massive PI hit from that RWD engine. If I could have run good tires on one of the RWDs I'm sure it could set a decent time.

What a great job everybody did!

Congratulations to Ske for putting almost every one of the Civics up on the top row...

So, in answer to the age old question, "Which Civic in C?"

It looks like, "Any of them, built for grip with slicks..."  Any of them but the Del Sol perhaps, and the Tuners, Mugen and the WW Civic end up falling off due to no slicks.  The DLC cars held their own as well.  Of all of these, it will be those and the tuners that I take with me to B.

As for drivetrain swaps.  I have found that the only viable one is to and AWD setup, and then only if you are taking it to Class A.  There was nothing discovered here that upset that... rule, I guess you could call it.

Once again, great job everybody!!

Something I find quite impressive is that the DLC cars kept up even with no weight reduction.. they could be very good in B indeed. I forgot to run the '04 again, but I think that one would be up there with the best of them. I'm not quite sure exactly what brought those extra seconds but a combination of drastic sway bar tuning, rear toe and shorter gearing sure gave the newer cars a kick up the rear.

The CR-X was a bit quicker than the pack, but I guess a second over 3 tracks isn't that much. The CR-X and VTi also didn't respond as good as the newer cars to rear toe and fat rear sway bar, so the times set with those are the best I could do.

The '99 Civic still boggles me - "on paper" it seems very good indeed, but it just couldn't put up at all. It feels like it's accelerating much slower than the others even though the p/w ratio is as good as any here. Same goes for the Del Sol... it wasn't as bad as the '99 but it struggled to keep up with "the pack".

Actually, I think the RWD swap could be worth a try for B class. With better rubber I'm sure they calm down... and for a car running on DOTs I think the RWD Del Sol did quite well.

Anyway, are you making this step up into B a challenge? I'm with you if you do! ;)
