Okay, so Eph is still larnin'...
« on: September 12, 2007, 06:26:35 AM »
The old fart that is a paintin' my cars is mostly good at getting a smooth single colour pearl paint job and hanging the company logo on it someplace.  But he is starting to venture out.  I have an SS Camaro named Blacky (cause it is black) that he wants to try to put some flames on.  I said okay.  He ain't moved yet.  He mostly sits on a five gallon trans grease bucket and drinks beer and stares at it.  I think he is waiting on his muse...  I think maybe he is hoping like hell that there is a muse to wait on...

This was a quicky job for the David Freddy races...

I always try to find a way to fit that HOOKER sticker on my race liveries. Nice Blooze!

Well I'm pretty good putting the "torch" to my cars if he wants some help. I guess you have seen them before. The last car I did, the C2, I specifally said to myself no flames. I'm half asleep, trying to figure out some nice clean Foose style paint. Flipping through the saved groups. Finally pass out and hit A on the flames. I hear the game beep, and look.

Damn, flames look perfect on it. Looks like Scottie Cannon's old Pro Mod Vette, real bad a$$. I'll post the pics of it when I can get them on the computer. Probably this weekend.

Might as well throw up one I got up already.

That's the Z/28 from the Drift profile. I have a few newer styles coming with the Newspeed profile. I'll post a shop thread once I get them uploaded.

See?  Now, I really like that.  I am going to work on larnin' myself to do those sorts of things.

You remember Chevy's paint job from the NASCAR pace car last year...  gonna try to get that on most of my Vettes...

Right, that's put me off doing flames for life! There's no way I'll ever get that good.

Terrific job Drift.

Its not so hard to do. It just takes layers. I do it just like the real painters do. Start with the darker reds, and just stamp all over the place. Then I lay a matching gradient over them. Then move to orange. Repeat until I put on the white cap. I'm using the gradient flames to help with the realism. But I can get "old school" and put down the old hot rod style licks complete with pin striping. That way takes a long time. You have four layers for every lick you put down. This way might take 30 mins. Actually the 2nd profile looks a little better to me, more realistic. I'll show you when I can get off work to do it. They got me scheduled to work 60 hrs this week.

PS check out the M Inc. logo hidden behind the front wheel well.

I need to get with the program on new paint stuff.  I haven't messed with it this time around except in a limited basis.  But it was the same way in the last game... I didn't mess with the painting until I had the rest of the game pretty much under control, specially the tuning.

I have always been conscious of the old "If it don't go, chrome it." syndrome.  Go fast paint jobs on a pile of ....

So I always make sure it goes first...

I wish I could make myself stick to a strict, "it ain't done till the paint's on it." rule.  Sometimes this Muscle Inc stuff puts deadlines in the middle of things.  You think I am slow on the track.  You ought to see me tuning, or painting.

it might just be your camera or your monitor, but there's a greenish tint to some of your yellows. Was that what you intended?

That's just a camera white balance issue.  Our eyes adjust to different color temperatures, but cameras have to guess.  Most cameras get totally confused by things like florescent lights and monitors, which is why you see the inaccurate colors.

It can be solved by setting a fixed white balance with your camera (if your camera supports it) or by setting a white/gray point in a photo app like Picasa, Photoshop, etc.

Yes, I'm a camera geek.  :)
