If you are talking about the settings I listed, they are Brake Bias values and are/should be peedal independent.

You can adjust the dead zone settings in Forza no matter what controller you're using.  Go to My Profile, then Options, then hit "X" (I think?) to go to the advanced controller options.  You can adjust the dead zone settings from there.

The other settings like spring strength and drift are Fanatec wheel settings, and are not possible on the MS wheel.

FYI, from Thomas' blog

Quote
The recommended settings have changed after the patch.

The steering mode "simulation" let all cars oversteer more easily. Even the slowest Nissan Datsun 510 going uphill on Fujimi Kaido will oversteer easily although the power of the car is not enough to go higher than second gear most of the time. Do an oval track with a Mercedes C63 and you will fly off in every corner. Tim Schrick mentioned the tendency to oversteer the virtual M5 already on his comparision to the real car and he was using the old simulation mode.

I think the problem is not the oversteering but calling the mode "simulation". If T10 would have chosen "drift mode" it would have been more appropriate and still makes sense as it is fun to play. Remember: difficult not equal to realistic.

If you want to have more realistic car behavior and be faster than in the old simulation mode, you need to turn the steering mode to "normal" now.

If you stay in "simulation" mode it helps to turn down the sensitivity to 270° or even lower to 180° to make ultra fast movements. This is nothing for smooth drivers!

I guess I've side-stepped this whole issue because I've always used 270 degrees.  I don't like shuffle-steering on such a small wheel, especially with the paddle shifters in the way.

I have an early PWTS too, but I updated the firmware a while back to try to help with a GT5 bug that made the wheel oscillate itself.  Those other settings were added in a firmware somewhere along the way.

Fanatec posts firmware updates regularly on Thomas' blog.  There is no warranty supplied with the updates, however, and given the sometimes-fragile nature of firmware updates I don't keep my wheel up-to-date as a matter of course.  That said, if your firmware is very old perhaps that's what is causing the trouble?  It seems like they make a lot of changes in each update.

I don't remember what each of those settings are, but I know:

Lin = linearity of steering input
Dea = deadzone size (from the wheel itself rather than that set in the game)
Spr = centering spring strength, I think?
Dpr = Don't remember!  I think it's some kind of dampening setting?
Hey, BMC, I was just spending some time re-threading and wondering how to apply any firmware updates to the wheel. I have never updated, so yes, my version is original.
Appreciate if you could advise on how to acquire (figure I go to Thomas' blog and download) and apply any updates for the Fanatec wheel.
Thanks, and Cheers!

I only did it once, and long enough ago that I really don't remember, but here's what I think is still the newest firmware:

http://www.911wheel.de/?q=node/4349

The instructions for updating should be included in the firmware file.

Here's how to check your current version:

Quote
to check the version boot the wheel into standby mode (when '---' is on the display) then press and hold 'A, B, LSB & RSB' together. The version number will be displayed on the tuning screen, this will also switch between the fan modes 'On' (always spinning) and 'Off' (temperature controlled fans). Each time you press that button combination the fan mode will change.

Be very careful upgrading!!!  Firmware updates that fail can leave some devices as bricks, depending on how well the firmware update is written.  Fanatec does not support firmware upgrades unless they tell you to do so via tech support.  I know people have had problems doing Fanatec upgrades with 64-bit Windows (and if you use a Mac or Linux you're out of luck entirely).  I would only do the upgrade if you feel you really need it  I do not have the newest version, and I do have my wheel sometimes barf and need to be restarted, but I'm not going to do another firmware update on the off chance that something goes wrong.  It's too late to ask for a new one for Christmas.  :)

Thanks, Opn2nd. It took a while, but I got the download and updated the firmware. I had to put on my propeller hat and figured it out.
Cheers!

@BMC, the firmware version was 617, IIRC, but now reads 681. It took, was a bit tricky navigating, but once I figured it out, all went well. The additional settings are there, like dmp, don't know that I'll use that, but it is up to date, nevertheless.
Cheers!
