Regarding the stock transmission, I've found it works for me in some cars and not in others. The key seems to be how well the stock gears are set up. For example, the gears on the '04 Civic are pretty good stock, and I didn't alter them (or indeed the suspension for Motegi) for my E-Class runs in that car. In complete contrast, the randomiser gave me the Chevelle for Road America. What seemed at first hit to be a stroke of luck for me turned out not to be when the gearbox was taken into account. Basically, that car doesn't have enough PI to select even the Sport gearbox in E-Class so I was stuck with a car which maxxed out at 132mph - I was bouncing off the rev limiter in top gear 3 times per lap. That is a rather extreme example of a stock gearbox not being up to scratch.

One thing I have noticed about the "Leaderboard Cars" is that they all appear to go pretty well with a stock gearbox - couple that with the in-game benefits of 4WD (especially when swapped in) and you can see two advantages those cars have. Since many of the faster driver's seem to run mainly the leaderboard cars, I can see where the advice to always use the stock gearbox comes from. Personally, I still like the race 'box for most of my cars.

I'm also very impressed with the 3.5million CR you've got from the Eclipse :o. That's over twice as much as I have from my highest grossing car - an Altezza sitting at about 1.6million CR.

I guess I should qualify that a bit...  I never have had much luck getting along with the 4 speeds on the vintage muscle cars, or vintage sports cars for that matter.  I will most likely be eyeballing the 5 speeds for the opportunity to employ that building algorythm...

Heh, I have two of the GSX's.  One in the BucksToon garage, and another in my Blooze46 garage.  The Blooze instance has 4.2 million credited to it.  That makes about 7.7 million driving that one car.

That should give some strength to my claim that the GSX is the best car in the game...

Doing some of the stuff that was a part of the game when we first got going is fun for a change.  I am letting the Season Guy march me around for the first year because he is running me through the E Class events.  Running those events against the AI and stuff is kind of fun.  Most of my other running has either been against a stacked deck in a private lobby or a hotlap against a ghost.

I've leveled the BucksToon guy out - no more free cars.... :(

Buck here; damn its like national damn security to get any computer time around here...

Anyhow...  I thought I'd give ya a report on the new version of the D GSX.  It is faster, but it is harder to drive.  The thing that makes it harder to drive is the loss of some of the torque, most of that coming from the switch back to a stock transmission and stock gearing.  The Sport Transmission and being able to swap out the FD is in this car's future, I suspect.  So, the torque hit makes momentum, and therefore, the "line" and breaking points very important.

Good thing?  Bad thing?  Bad, it is taking me longer to get this thing done.  Good, I'm getting better at driving - more finesse, more accurate.  For instance, even with the loss in grip as well as torque, I was able to set a personal best on the Kaido Old Uphill D/R segment.  The time is even at the top of the Chasers List, most likely momentarily.  And in the Snakes I am out pacing the Blooze times that were set with the older version of the D GSX.  Pretty cool

The D Class version most likely is not going to make as much money as the others, racing in those private races can be a bit tiresome when you don't need the money and I get better times when racing the ghost.  But, even so the car is still up to half a million just clearing the D events in the career.

All in all, I still love this little car, I like looking at it and will often set the thing to "Showcase" when I am having a take five between stints.  And even though not the optimum choice for a lot of these tracks, the car is still laying down some pretty good times, from a #760 on the Sunset Oval to a #161 on the Kaido D-R segment.  That is all with the sa350 Build and a single setup.

We here at B2 racing are still pretty proud of our nomination for BCG.

As for best car of the game I'm not sure I'm very qualified to say, I tend to drive whatever tickles my fancy.  I probably have the most time in the '79 Camaro though I think you would be hard pressed to call it the best car.  If I had my druthers I'd much prefer that they had put the split bumber Camaro in the game.

One thing I do know is that in the lower classes a stock gearbox or potentially the sport box are all that is really required, with the exception of any modern GM product.  The double overdrive emissions gearing kills any of the GM cars with the stock trans.

So far, for the GSX, the stock gearing seems to be handling the load.  I already built out a B Class and an A Class version with unmodified transmission and that seems to be able to keep pace with the attending Hp and Aero increases.

The thing that sent me off on this trail was a Hellisan A Class EVO with no transmission upgrade, and seems to be working well with the GSX.  I still have BCG work to do in B and A class, and I am certain that the C Class NRT build will be better as well.  I don't know if I will rerun the C Class in the BucksToon account with it, however.

We'll see...
