I think I am going to start trying to manage my Forzacating so that I am spending more time on the Micro types of projects.  I have to decide what my first one will be.

Maybe my first Micro project will be to make a list of possible Micro projects...

LMAO - yeah, you're right.  See, the first thing I'd have to do is create a spreadsheet, and then...

question for the number heads here :)

we get the new scoreboard filter functionality soon (?)  over at FM2,

any thoughts on how you might use it... for spreadsheet/number comparisons ?
also of course for new personal challenges?

a couple of thoughts ive had so far,
- putting a link on my spreadsheets which have the car/class filter link (i.e. to bring up fastest Lotus Esprit in A class, not using assist (as i dont) )
- use the above, to look at QR times for said cars
- challenges based on non-scoreboard cars with no TCS/drafting :)
... i'll also take a look at the new code once its up there, see if we can reasonably 'download' it, though unfortunately if fear its  going to again be unlikely, but at least the breadcrumb URL will give us the access point we need.

k, i know fundementally T10 have screwed it up, since you (presumably) only ever have your fastest time up there but might prove interesting data still.

The only value I can see in it is searching by car.

Heavens, have I got a ton of crap to write!

I've worked out an example with the Pea Picker and will post it in the spreadsheet thread.

Then there is all the parts testing.

And the Leaderboard/Hotlapping.

Anybody notice the new #1 Hot Lapper?  Some guy named Mzungi.  His total is an 1.5 hours ahead of TDR Nat's 11:05:46.  Now come on!  I imagine the boy is about to get a reprimand as soon as they figure out how he did it.  I did a spot check on some tracks - he's like #1200 on D Class Laguna Seca...

Anyhow, I'm gonna try to eat a salad, re-run my Pea-Picker baseline, and update the various threads all at the same time here...

busy, busy, busy...

 :-\ $

[update]LMAO - That Mzungi dude is toast already!  TDR Nat is back on top.[/update]

Techno,

I actually requested the car filter on the .net board eons ago and Che even responded that he thought it was a good idea.  What I was after was the ability to look at just one car at a time.  Mainly because I wanted to be able to run any car that interested me and compare myself to others in the same car.  I fear what you say is true though.  If they only have the data stored for your ONE best car for each class/track combo then the data will not be usefull at all.

Hence, the reason that I keep my leaderboard sheets.

You can't blame them for that - can you imagine the size of that database if they stored every car you ran?  And what about a project like the my current Pea Picker project.  Would they save every instance of the Do-Luck that I ran and was one iota different than any of the others that I'd run?  Or would I just get one Do-Luck record, in which case, for this project I am right back in the same boat.

One of the things I used to sort of preach when I was doing my Application Architect thing is that sooner or later, the client is going to have to take responcibility for his own data.

I want one record per car/class/track combo.  I would think per build would be way too granular for any but the most dedicated, detail oriented, lunatics ;)  Yes I mean you Blooze :P

I could keep my own times in a spreadsheet but that only tells me my times.  I'm interested in everybody elses times in the same car/class/track.  As it is I can compare my time to the best in the class but I have no idea if my time is good or bad for a particular car unless my car is one of the leaderboard cars.

As for space, assuming they only capture the one best time per class/track now, it would take about 300 times more space (how many cars are there?)   So # of cars * 10 classes * # of tracks * record size (shouldn't be a very big record, all keys except the date and lap time).    300 * 10 * 52 * 50  = 7,800,000 per person.  And there is about a million users?  So 7,800,000,000,000 total.  Super rough calculation 7,800 gigabytes?  Heck I got almost half that storage capacity at my house.

I guess I don't see the issue.  Search on which ever of the cars you wish.  You may not be a part of the result, but you will get the top 1000 times for that car on that track.  You should be able to figger out where you stand with that pretty easy.  Using the percentage business that we're using for goal and prognostication.

Eh, indexes aren't free...   I think the performance, both input and searches would be hit pretty hard.

Were I an MS or Turn 10 guy, I would be against it.

No issue.  What you describe is exactly what I want.  The ability to search by car.  I'm just afraid they don't have the data.  I think it's widely assumed they only store the top ONE time for a class/track currently not the top time for each car/class/track.  So if my top time on maple valley/C class is in a PT Cruiser, that is the only car I will have data for on maple valley/c class.  And if I'm the only person in the world whose top time on MV/C is in the PT then I will be the only result when you search on pt/mv/c.  Hopefully the assumption is wrong.
