October MInc Challenge - The California Kid
« on: October 01, 2007, 09:53:16 AM »
You seen that Movie haven't you?

What?

You must go rent it immediately, whipper snapper!!  >:(

 ;D

That '34 3 Window Coupe has been the definition of "Hot Rod" for me since the movie showed on the TV.

So, in keeping with my tendency to stumble down memory lane (old fart priviledge again - get used to it boys, I'm gonna play it till it's revoked... ;)) we have the "California Kid Challenge"  Now, I tried to come up with a car to assign to this.  But rather than that, you pick the car.  The qualifier is... pick a Muscle Inc car that you haven't worked up yet.  For me it is going to be the Camaro SS.

There are three aspects to this challenge and I expect it to run the full two weeks...
  • California Kid paint jobs.  This will be voted on by participants.  I will build the poll after near the end of the challenge so folks can vote on their favorites.  Google "California Kid Hot Rod" if you wonder what I am talking about.  In my mind, it doesn't have to be exact, but it ought to be in the "flavour" of the original - i.e., flames...
  • Since this should be a new car to you, post the QR.  For those of you who might have missed it, the QR is now made up of the tracks Road Atlanta II, Sebring Short, and Tsukuba.
  • And what would any challenge with the name California be without some sort of time on Leguna Seca.

NOTE: 1 tune should be used for all four tracks.  Also, posting times for the QR tracks is optional.

So there it is.  Four tracks and a paint job on a car you haven't messed with, or messed with much.

LOL - that ought to keep you off the streets... you bunch of whipper snappers...

;) $

Scoreboard will remain in this post.  Please post all times in seconds only.

I do believe that this is the car of which you speak:

It is highly likely that the above post was produced with a drippy jowl.

Woo Hoo, a paint challenge  ;D  ;D.  At least I have a chance at one aspect of the challenge  ;)

As far as untouched, I still have a virgin 'cuda, chevelle, and the new DLC cars.  HHmmmmm, what would look good in flames.............
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Hmmm, Muscle Inc cars that I've already tried:

camaro SS
camaro Z28
chevelle
charger
GTO
challenger
ZR-1
stingray
barracuda
boss
shelby 500KR

hmmm.

maybe I'll just pick something that isn't popular!

I haven't been turning any impressive times in it, but the Boss has been holding its own in recent online races. I bounced into a room without checking the restrictions last night and wound up shifting my own gears. I figured I was done for since I usually race with assists on and AT, but after the initial shock of getting stuck in 1st with the engine screaming, I was able to wrangle a 1st place. I was feeling pretty good about myself until a new host took over and turned everything off without telling me. Can you say 'Fireball in Turn One"? ::)

It sure is easy to shift these things. If you shift a little too early, there's a mountain of torque ready to save you!

I figure I'll be trying a Boss, a Challenger and a Charger.  Looks like I've got some building to get done.

I need to go look into making another tune too, I need to replenish my funds.

Good on ya, that's pretty close.  I don't think the paint on the hood louvers was part of the original, but I couldn't find a picture that was worth a hoot that wasn't copyrighted.  Thanks for posting this Bimmer.

well, now I know I should've written my boss time down. I turned a 59.8xx on tsukuba last night. That's a few tenths faster than what my MInc cars have been averaging on that track. The build was all tires and handling with stock hp IIRC.

Okay, let's try to keep the sniggering and guffaws down to a dull roar here...  :-\

I'm still working on it.  I have used this little hiatus to spend some time with some grippy FWD cars and this damned Camaro is eating my lunch!  These are my times at the moment.  I expect to improve.  But it won't be quickly - I'm glad we have some time.  I have to drive up to the county seat this morning to be a good citizen and be a part of a jury pool.  So, any car work will have to be a night time trick.  This sort of bums me out really.  I was getting to like the idea that Forza and this forum were my 9 to 5...  only thing missing was a grey carpeted box to sit in.

My times are currently
  • QR = 199.669
  • Leguna Seca = 95.813

Yeah, yeah... I know - you got a Gramma in a wheel chair...  :-\

I have mucho work to do on the paint...  Trying to make a logo there, sort of a rip on the VIS logo.  And I am trying not to get too wild with the flames.  But I think I need to be a bit wilder than that.  Right now it looks like if you don't blow on it, it is going to go out.

Throught I'd get this one moved back up the board. Firstly, i think I found where all your flames went Blooze. I think I may have gone a little overboard with the flameage  ;) I've only had chance to do a very short (3 lap) run so far, but already the build feels pretty good - 92.717s around Seca. Just for clarification, are we running the same tune for all tracks or can we go for up to 4 different tunes?

Anyway, here's my new 5000cr 'Cuda at the Corkscrew.

Blooze, have you swapped out Mugello for Sebring short. I was just wondering if there was a typo.

Waiting for the camera to charge up and then some old school flames on a GT 500. I'll post it and some times tonight here.

@ Spiny:  Yes.  One tune.  I should have said something, but then the idea setting a QR with 3 different cars sort of defeats the purpose of it and never really occurred to me... ;)

Interesting colour selection on the Cuda.  It looks sharp! :)

And nice time!  Geez...  :-\

@ Drift:  There's a thread about Excel and Forza over in my shop where me and Spiny kicked that around for a few days.  We have 4 rankings based on 9 tracks now.  Our thought concerning Mugello is that it presents many of the same problems as Atlanta Short and we didn't have a track that could be considered a Power track in the QR line up.  That is why the change to Sebring Short for the QR.
