I think I'm about to ask a stupid question.
Are the times everyone is chatting about posted from Time Trials, Hot Laps, or best lap in any given race? Also, when talking about a particular class, is there a restriction to a specific car, or is any car in class eligible?

...er, maybe that was two stupid questions. :-[

The reason this comes up now, I have never been one to look at leader-boards, devoting most of my time ploughing through career. Just recently I have looked at the LB (following the first Challenge of a month ago), and I see I am no where to be found. So, maybe now I'll sneak a peak, but don't want to depress myself... ::) LOL

Go to leaderboards, circuits/p2p/drag, choose a class and start chasing. It's also quite useful to add the person or people that you want to chase (if you are not already friends on live) to your favourite list. Then you can compare how you're getting on against them rather than the top times. You can also work through the races from the leaderboard rather than going out of career and into hotlap mode. Work through Benchmark and Sidewinder as you don't get those in career and each track without any time counts as 30mins and those with non-legit times have 10mins added. I went for a grippy car first with the intention of heading back with a speed car at a later date. It's good fun and didn't take as long as I thought it would.

I thought i'd have a crack at chasing Blooze too so I started at the bottom and started running through the F class circuits over the weekend, with 1 flying lap to set a certified time anywhere I hadn't run or had a de-cert lap.

I'm down to around 16 1/2 hours now and have Blooze as the next target on my Friends LB about 13 hours in front of me...

Biggest suprise so far has been my little 92hp VW Rabbit which is nearly top 100 overall at Kaido.
Extra smokey.... now with no assists!

This reminds of the tortoise and the hare in so many ways.

Chase is such a relative term too, cause we have so many combinations to run the actual work involved in simply running them all is one chase all by itself. Actually chasing someone down in a single class, let alone on a single track is a weighty application of time and effort.

Blooze, you may not be the fastest in any one single race, but the lead in accomplishment you have created is quite sizeable.

We are all lucky enough to be able to feed on each others strengths and weaknesses, and in doing so improve ourselves and eachother.

Hey, what about me? (Nothing like a little extra HP.) ;)
PS, Circuit was Benchmark Ring
PPS, this probably won't last long, if Blooze is going to saddle up and "chase back".

LOL - Good Job Barumba!!  Now go out and do it about 88 more times!  ;D

One of the things about doing the Chase thing is that it personalizes what can be a pretty boring exercise and makes it interesting - makes it a competition.  Just running for a time and a position is one thing, Trying to catch up to Silvo in the Class A Camino Viejo tracks is something else.

That's how I spent a good part of the morning.  I took my 997 RS out on that pile of rocks and worked on that 14 second deficit he'd put on me there.  A good sized piece of it was in the two Extreme tracks where I had one and done 'em.  But he and that Bora are pretty quick - when I'd run those tracks all I wanted to for time being, he was still ahead of me.  But it was only 1.302 seconds instead of 14.  And we're both in the top 500 for that environment - barely, but we're there.

That's when it really gets cool, when you open up a leaderboard and there's the whole crew.  There was a while back in the Forza 2 days when we had 20 guys in the top 1000 of Hotlap.  That was neat.  It made me proud to be a part of a crew like that.

As far as chasing you guys in F Class down, it's gonna be a while before I get back down there.  I got the Career to finish and a whole piss pot load projects to get done in Classes B on up, including the P2P boards...  so yer safe... for now...

Wrapped up F-class last night with Suzuka, Tsukuba, and Twin Ring Motegi.  Finished up 206th overall to Blooze's 209th (as of last night, it could have changed)  I'm glad that F-class is done with for now but it is on for E-class!!

One thing I noticed is that I made gobs of money doing it in Private Races.  GOBS!!  It allowed me to build up all kinds of cars that I wanted, level them up, pay them up, and have plenty of spare cash for the next project.  I used my winnings from my initial blast through with my GTA to buy a Corrado.  Then the winnings from the Corrado to buy an Eclipse '03.  Saved all the winnings from that to buy a '79 Camaro, and so on and so on until I added an Elan, a '71 Skyline, a MkII Golf and a Rabbit.  Not to shabby to still walk away with just shy of 2 mill in the account.

I plan on using the same philosophy to build up my E-class garage as it is farily sparse.  My 2000GT is going to be pulling some serious duty on the flowing tracks to get me stocked up for a featherweight sprint car, power monster, and whatever other cars strike my fancy as I progress.  There are a few in the top of F that are just begging for my attention, like every version of the Focus, the Pontiac Trans Am, and maybe even all three variations of my MiTo project that has been on the shelf.

Still lots to do and plenty to look forward to, lets see how long my F-class stands now that Pete is hot on the trail.  Probably not too long!!!
Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

I'm not going to be any more of a threat unless I happen onto something worth going back and doing.  Its onward and forward from here on out.

I'm working my way up from the back of the pack Blooze, you just happen to be the lead drafting partner for most of us at the moment.

They were good days - I'm pleased to say that that's pretty much how my friends list looks on a lot of leaderboards at the moment. Amazing how many times I see my position in 3 figures on the overall leaderboard, cycle round to friends and I'm not even on the first page :o You're still top of my friends list overall though. I still intend on coming after you, but my first exercise is finishing that event list. And that is taking some time...

I've also made the decision not to buy any more R1 cars until I have the rest. I've been working backwards though the alphabet trying to get every car going, but whenever I've come to an R1 car it's wiping out a week or two of cash. So, I've come to the decision that they can wait until the end - that way I might actually have a chance of getting to A.

I finished up F class earlier with 145th overall, 4 1/2 minutes in front of Fit and 5 1/2 in front of Blooze. I mainly used 3 cars, a grip built VW Rabbit, my Yaris S + starter car and a '92 Supra I built when the Career mode gave me the F Class Speedway event.

The VW Rabbit is a great little grip car and just zipped its way around Kaido, Positano and the Sidewinders. I kept it front wheel drive and it comes in just under 2000lbs with 92hp its got no top speed but that just means you don't have to slow down so much for corners :D

The Yaris went a lot better on some of the longer tracks than I expected, its got really strong acceleration and just pulls out of corners. the stock gearbox works really well on this car, its just so flexible and pulls in 3rd all the way from 40/50mph right up to 100mph so you can just roll through a lot of corners in 3rd and carry a lot more momentum because of not having to change down to 2nd.

The Supra I ran at the Benchmark, Le Mans and I already had a time at the Ring with it, It doesn't really go well anywhere shorter though as its quite sluggish on acceleration because of the 4WD swap but it does keep going up to over 150mph (eventually).

I also built up a Toyota 2000 GT, Chevy Aveo and Honda Del Sol but I haven't really had chance to run them yet apart from a few career races.
