[FM2] JEi Project Subaru WRC
« on: September 28, 2007, 06:55:11 AM »
Hey guys,

I'm looking to make a rally car sometime soon in FM2.  I've already got a start with an '05 Subaru WRX.

Basically, I'm looking for something that handles like a rally car.  I've got a good start on it, and I'll post up what I have later.

Let me know any suggestions.

PS: Big Moo, we might be able to replicate yer olde RS here.

Oh, the car is for A-Class, probably.  Perfer no higher than that.

STRATOS FTW!!

Seriously, I wound up taking an unplanned offroad vacation in the Lancia and, to my surprise, it handled the dirt like a champ. It was stable, predictable and still picking up speed when I finally found pavement again.

Not sure you want or need that front wing though.

What are you going to use as a measuring stick?

Whoops!  Forgot to specify.  I'm not talking about actually driving off road... I'm try to get something to handle like a rally car does on tarmac.  Hm... hard to explain, this.  If you have DiRT, try driving a subaru on one of the courses in Spain.

Maybe the intention will come across better when you get to drive my pre-lim setup.

I'm thinking prolly AWD, by the way.

Surely you have more than a feeling to measure by.  LOL - :)

Say, pick a snake track - build out the Sparco EVO and run the absolute best you can with it.  Then see if you can match it or beat it with you Scooby...

Something like that...

Somehow I think what he actually wants is a drift tune.

Yep, I said the d-word. :o

I've made a half-hearted attempt at a crazy-loose car that I could catch with the throttle in Forza 2, but haven't had much luck yet.  It's definitely NOT drifting, where you want your car to keep huge slip angles through the course on the throttle.  It's more like being able to toss the car into a corner on the brakes/e-brake and get a lurid slide going, then floor the gas and have the AWD sort the car out.

I suspect you'd probably want a car with a really heavy RSB, possibly a big rear brake bias, and a really soft rear rebound damper to get the weight to the front quickly.  Tuning the diff for understeer on the throttle would probably make the car pretty catchable.

It certainly isn't fast, but it's a heck of a lot of fun!

Ok.  I'm not looking for a drift tune.  Something along the lines of what Big Moo said is right.  I'm having real issues describing the feel I'm looking for.

I guess having something with some serious turn-in understeer Oversteer, loads of grip, and a little oversteer on throttle that pulls itself straight.  Also want the car to be able to do insane amounts of curb-hopping without much affect.  I'll post up (or gift ya) copies of the car in an attempt to get the point across.

I'm trying to emulate the way a WRC car would feel on tarmac, basically.  So I'm trying to figrue out, I guess, what the difference between a WRC car set up for tarmac and, say, the JGTC Impreza in R4(?  Maybe R3), and then set my car up like the WRC car.

See what I mean now?

PS: Don't ya hate it when you can't really put something into typed words?

Check FM.net for the BBB trans-axel challenge. I put a very loose set up in there. It acts like a rally car. Real strong rear steer on exit. You want to get back to the gas quick, just make sure you don't have to lift.

It was an Integra and I think it was for C class. But the set up is a step in the right direction. All my tuned AWD's have this basic set up and I won a fun run challenge on FC.com's track attack against some decent drivers at Tsukuba.

I tried it again, and I found my way into the top 100 on one of the snake tracks.

I would post up my setup now... but I got distracted by Halo Coop on legendary... but, hey, I finished it.

BTW, Master Chief = Barbie.

Bimmer - if you haven't already I would recommend this. I remember this was the first time I set a good, competitive time and most of that was due to the 3 or 4 seconds over 5 laps I knocked off with this set-up compared to my more orthodox tune. It's very lairy, but dangnation it's fast!
