Two tone paint job bug ?
« on: November 12, 2009, 04:43:14 AM »
Something strange I noticed...

I bought a corvette C1 off the auctionhouse today. It had this horrible paintjob, so I wanted to change it back to one of the original 2-tone paints. Well I couldn't... I went into the "paint"->"paint body"->"manufacturer colors" menu and when I selected one of the 2-tone paintjobs the white or grey part would always be the same color like the rest of the body. In the "previous colors" menu I noticed it was bought as a 1 tone paint job

So I went over to some other cars who had two tone paintjobs and were in my garage (the new acr viper and the veyron) and noticed that if you want to change the paintjob on them the secondary color always remains the way you get it gifted, regardless what the manufacturer color thingy says.

I usually end up putting race replica paintjobs on most of my cars, but on some of the classics I like the original paintjobs.

Anyone else noticed this/got a solution ? (I tried to search the fm.net for a solution but the site seems to be down at the moment)

It's been another one of those problems daught netters have been having a meltdown about.  You would think it's the killing the game that the Veyron can't be repainted easily.  It's every two tone paint and cars with factory stripes like the Z-28 or Abarth 500.  I doubt we'll see a patch.  FM2 had a similar problem, but fewer cars used the scheme and it was never fixed.  I know the GT-40 was affected in FM2.  The body stripes were set in stone after it was in your garage.  If you wanted a different color combo you pretty much had to buy it or deal with vinyls.  I'm annoyed we can't choose the paint scheme of the gift car to start off.

Yep, I seem to recall the problem going back even to Forza 1.  Don't look for it to be fixed.

Amen to that Brother!!  I mean they go to all the trouble to load it when it is presented to you.  Why not bring it up the screen from Ye Olde Car Shoppe?  I sure they have their world programmed so those screens are objects with common Interfaces...  I mean, they are Microsoft, aren't they?

Speaking of which.  I sure wish we could talk them into dumping you into the Track Choice Screen from the Free Run/Hotlap end of things when you choose Test Drive.  No leaderboards, no ghosts, no replay/telemetry.  That Test drive is about as useless as ..., well it's damned useless.

As for the two tone problem, perhaps somebody with the scheme you are looking for could save it as a Design in their Storefront for you.  My C1 is black with a grey panel.  For a moment I thought I'd change it to the poster child red and white, but as you've noted - no soap.

It's not just the inability to change second tones which is back from the first two games either - anyone tried to paint the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche yet?

If you do make sure you use solid paint. I tried to do a Gold-and-white mix. The white vinyl had a gold tint in the right light as if the decal was partially transparent (it wasn't) but I quite liked the effect so didn't mind. What I definitely did not like was that the darker colours became Gold. It's a long way from being a game breaker, but just a heads up to anyone thinking of painting this that you should avoid the metallic paints like the plague.

You think it's bad for your C1?  Try buying the red Renault Turbo 5.

Pink bumpers.

I worked around the problem... Dirt called it the Pink Panther.  I found some Pink Panther vinyls, and all I can say is now you REALLY don't want to get beat by my little Renault.  :)
