What cars to buy first.....
« on: November 06, 2009, 11:09:44 AM »
Ok, so I'm near the end of season 6, 6.6 mil. in the bank, 30% of career complete. I will probably go on finishing all the races in "event list" mode after this season. But all these expensive cars are waiting in the showroom to be bought....  :-\

What to do next.... save money for the real expensive ones or buy the ones I can afford and move on from there. I just can't decide right now. Good thing is I don't really care for the 250 GTO (will buy eventually but not the first thing on my list)

The cars I do want are still plenty expensive though... 250 Testa Rossa, 330p4, cobra daytona, McLaren F1, Porsche 962,  GT40, shelby cobra add up to somewhere around 43 mil. :S

I've started making more money than I can spend, sort of. I'm going through season play now with a focus on just getting through it using a minimal number of tuned cars. With the rate of winnings, and gifts, the number of cars I have now should be more than enough to complete my seasonal event needs.

The discounts are mounting up, so upgrading is getting more affordable too.

My vinyl sales are doing well, and I hope to put some tunes and auctions up in the near future.

Even with a few personal favorite car purchases and several testing builds i'm still sitting at over 3mil in credits, but I think having at least that much on hand for the upcoming R-classes will be a good thing.

As for the game progress itself, my priorities are as follows:
1. Complete Gold in all events
2. Establish base times in all classes for any tracks I have not run
3. Improve base times in all classes for all tracks starting with lowest classes first
4. Dedicate hotlap efforts into classes and tracks that I enjoy

I should be done sometime around 2014.

LMAO!  No doubt.  I'm just in the low 20s level wise and my career stat says I've completed something like only 7%.  My focus is similar, work through career at gold level, then complete missing races, then set better times on all tracks.  Though I'm not sure now about setting times on all tracks.  I may just focus on the circuts.  Drag, drift, test tracks, some of those things I just don't care about.  Also there doesn't appear to be a "collect all cars" acheivement (is there one?) so I'm not sure I'm really interested in collecting them all.  I'm slowing adding cars I know I want but mainly doing the same as FDog, just using the gift cars with minimal upgrades to work through career.

There is an achievment for getting a car from each manufacturer.  There are 53 Mfgs according to my count, and we are getting cars from 31 of them just by leveling up.  That leaves 22 that need to be bought.  Some of them are a no brainer, like the Pontiac and the Subaru.  Others, however... like the Bently and the Citroen come immediately to mind.  Nothing to do but take a beating on those if you want the achievment.

Or...

We could get a bunch of us together (the Car Lot would be a good place to manage this from) and divvy up the cars that need to be bought (and normally wouldn't be bought) so that no one person has to carry the 22 car burden himself.  Then, once a guy has the cars he can get from leveliing up, he can announce that he is ready to go for the achievment.  Guys that have the various car will "loan" (gift) them to the fellow.  Once he has the achievement, he just sends them back.

It could all be managed in a spreadsheet that was posted to the Car Lot...  What is available, who is responsibe for supplying it, who has it at the moment, and who wants it next.

It could save taking a 50% beating buying and selling crap you really don't care about.

My "Proceed" plans are similar to y'all's, 'cept I may go after some of the left over races now till I get some stuff tested out, then finish up the career.  That Season Dude is goin' just a tad quick for me.  I really don't want to be racing R3 cars right now.

:) $

PS: Here's a spreadsheet I am using to keep track of which cars I need to buy for the achievement.  In the Got It column, a black x means I have it from the game, a red x means I bought it.

Here's a little ditty that I worked out for all that money you guys got...

In order to finish the Career, you are going to have to have 10 stock cars.  Two of them are given to you, the other eight will cost you $710,000.  Three of them cost more than the races you win with them (not counting assist bonus).  The worst offender being the Lamborgini Murcielago LP640.  It costs $300,000 - you can only win $95,000.  In fact, if they didn't give you the FXX, the whole Factory Spec series would be a serious loss.

There are 60 races involved, there is a profit of $136,000 for running them.  Now, there is a $846,000 pile of bonus money to be had - the percentage of that that you take away is up to you.

So, anyway - ya got to come up with 3/4 of a million just to finish the career...

As I mentioned off topic elsewhere, I'm one of those who IS after all the cars. I'm slowly working my way backwards though the alphabet picking (I get to the Cobra quicker that way :D) but that is a background to my Career plan. Which goes something like this:

1) Complete Season Play career
2) Complete Event Grid career
3) Run Time Trials (only run the Sidewinder one at the moment, and even then just for an out lap and one flying lap)
4) Hotlap - I figure that should help me afford the super-priced cars if I run the hotlaps in a "Private Room" of me and the AI

Like the rest of you, I can't see this being completed by 2012 at the earliest...

I downloaded a spreadsheet the otherday that worked out that getting the achievement for getting a car from every manufacturer will cost about 930.000CR (420.000 of this is because of pagani and shelby) based on the cheapest cars available. Ofcourse it makes more sense to inlcude the cars you need for the stock races.

Personally I'm after all the cars as wel.

@spiny: You are forgetting the all important: 0) Getting sidetracked all the time. (can sometimes be combined with one or more of the other points) ;)

I'm more then happy to help someone out with the cars achievement IF I get a gold subscription again that is. I probably will, if not for the online play I definitely want to check out the storefront/auctionhouse by the time I finish career. *edit* I just recieved gift cars from turn10 and cannot download them with xbox live silver, so I'll get a gold subscription today lol

Cool stats, Blooze!

It's going to be a LOOOOONG time before I am flush with money in FM3.  In fact, it's going to take me a very long time JUST to get that Testa Rossa.  :(

I think that's the ONLY Buick.  Not sure about the Mitsu, but if there's a lower cost option, I'd be surprised if it's noticeably so.

Brainfart, meant to say chrysler (eagle talon is cheaper) The mitsubishi fto (6k), eclipse gsx (4k) an gto (8k) are all cheaper. Might be even cheaper to set something up like blooze suggested for the people who don't care for some manufacturers but do want the achievement. I'll be happy happy to help out.

Yeah, like that damned factory spec race with the Murcielag 640LP...  I don't want one in my garage.  If somebody will lend me a stock one, or one with the parts removed, I'd send it back in a couple days.  I'm fairly certain that there is a car on the list that I Do like and you Don't.  I'd be glad to help you out with that.
