FWD/RWD/AWD
« on: September 25, 2007, 06:33:38 AM »
I hear alot of folk moaning about fwd and awd in forza why do you think this is.

Personally my last three real life cars have been Toyota MR2 turbo (rwd two seats mid engined)
,Honda Integra type R (fwd road race car) and a subaru wrx (awd torque monster)
Now sure these cars are all totally different but ive loved each and every one and each one has its ups and down sides but none off them is any better than the other one

So why do people get so upset im a car lover and love all types off cars rwd, fwd, awd, muscle, imports is this just me.

I also see folk dont like the integra or think its to quick but this car is meant to be the best handling fwd in the world sure its going to be quick if the games close to real life.I have videos on my pc of the integra beating its big brother (nsx) round a wet race track just because the nsx couldint get the power down
and it has an extra 100bhp

The reason people get "upset" is that they seem to think Forza's physics puts rear wheel drive cars at a disadvantage, or at least not as balanced as they perhaps should be. There are a number of tracks (Mugello being a heavily discussed example) where a rear wheel drive just can't compete.

I can't argue if this is correct or not as far as realism goes, but Forza does seem to exaggerate oversteer in certain cars. It may be FM2's physics engine or it may be the linear controls, but I agree to a certain extent that RWDs - especially FRs - are less driveable in this game with normal tuning. The laptimes set by the good people here at MI do however prove that rear drive can be quick with a bit of unorthodox tuning.

Word.

Also, you can put some insane tuning setups on a FWD in this game that just wouldn't work IRL. There's something wonky going on with the FWD physics.

I have no problem with the FWD or AWD guys. I usually do restrict the drive type however and I'll tell you why:

FWD and AWD guys, in my experience, tend to apex early with the brakes locked, cutting across what would be the fastest line for a RWD car. Because these different drive types encourage different driving lines, it increases the chances of a pretty dramatic accident in turn one of any given race.

This is where i get lost my 22b(awd) does 1.50.6 round mugello the integra (fwd) does 1.50.9 mr2 (rwd) 1.50.7 caymen (rwd) 1.50.7 fairlady 1.50.8 so out of all my fwd/rwd/awd my fwd time are the slowest

I just think its wierd am i slower than i should be in fwd or faster than most people in rwd and awd

the argument about FWD vs RWD on Mugello concerned B-Class. Those look like A-Class times to me. I don't race A-Class all the time, but I've heard that the FWD cars start to lose their advantage there.

I think the "problem" is most present in C and B class to be honest. Once you start adding 350-400 plus HP, FWD begins to lose it's advantage, as you'd expect. This is also when AWD starts to be good. RWD is competitive in D class because the slicks/low power combination exterminates any traction issues.

Edit: Hoplee snuck a reply in there before me  :P

Makes more sense now yes they were a class times so you think fwd has an advantage b class and lower or just b class

It does make sense to be that an integras sweet spot would be in be in b class lots of handling upgrades and not much power to cause understeer

Just how much advantage does fwd drive give in b class 1 second 2 seconds? is it on handling tracks only or are speed tracks affected

in B-Class on Mugello Long, the 'advantage' of FWD cars is worth between 1.5 and 2 seconds per lap given equal drivers and car preparation.

I don't have data for other tracks yet, feel like running some laps? :D
